Recent Champ Wood Busted

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
Greg Wood, pictured at a different event.
Greg Wood, pictured at a different event.

If Greg Wood, who just won HPT Lawrenceburg for about $120,000, is to win a second straight HPT title, it's going to take at least a second shell.

Three players saw a {2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop and the first two checked to Wood, who bet 2,600 from the button into about 4,000. Chuck Scaglione came along from the small blind but Adam Friedman popped it to 7,500 in the hijack. Wood thought a bit and tossed in his 15,200. Scaglione instantly moved all in and Friedman folded with a sigh.

Chuck Scaglione: {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Greg Wood: {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Wood was cooked without runner-runner, but he did pick up a chance on the {4-Spades} turn. He asked for a king but the {5-Clubs} river didn't do it.

A Few Hands From Around the Room

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante

On a {k-Clubs}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds} flop with about 3,500 in the pot and three players in the hand, the player on the button bet 2,000 after action checked to him. Both players called. The turn came {3-Spades} and all three players checked. The river came {k-Hearts} and the first player checked from under the gun. Kevin Bartholomew then bet 6,600 from directly to his left. The player in the button called quickly, and then after some time the third player called as well.

Bartholomew showed {q-}{q-} and both players mucked. He now has 46,000 in front of him.

On an adjacent table, action was joined after two players were all in, with Lydia Waltonbaugh showing {a-}{a-} versus her opponent's {k-}{k-}. The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and her aces held, knocking out her opponent and bringing her stack up to 41,000.

Yin Overbet Rips

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Three players saw a {9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Spades} flop and action checked to the cutoff, where Chuck Scaglione bet 2,200. Hae Yin raised to 5,000 in middle position, a third player mucked, and Scaglione called. The turn was a {7-Diamonds} and Yin shipped all in.

"Can I get a count?" Scaglione asked with a sigh.

It was 33,900 and Scaglione tanked a bit and mucked.

Visbisky Takes Down Four-Bet Pot on Flop

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

On a three-handed flop with about 3,000 in the pot, Alex Visbisky checked from the big blind on a flop of {j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}. The cutoff checked, and the player on the button bet 2,300. Visbisky raised to 6,600, and his opponent quickly reraised to 14,000. Visbisky four-bet all in for his opponent's 16,000 remaining. His opponent thought for a some time and eventually conceded the pot, giving Visbisky kudos for a nice hand. He now has around 60,000.

Breuning Finds the Call Button

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Blind versus blind, Angelo Breuning bet 2,500 on a completed board of {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts}. He had bet the flop against his lone opponent, with the turn being checked through. The river, though, saw significant action as the big blind raised to 8,400. Breuning went into the tank for about 30 seconds then dropped in calling chips.

The big blind showed {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for bottom pair and Breuning tabled {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for kings up.

Yin Wins With Broadway

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

With three players in the pot on a {a-}{q-}{10-} flop, Hae Yin bet 2,200 into a pot of around 3,000. Adam Friedman folded from the cutoff, and a third payer called on the button. The turn was another {a-} and Yin checked. His opponent fired a bet of 6,800 into the pot, and Yin called. The river came a {9-}. Yin checked and then verbally announced a call after his opponent bet 9,200.

His opponent showed {8-}{5-} and Yin showed {k-}{j-} for a flopped Broadway, good enough to take down the pot for almost 40,000.

Bob Nolen
Bob Nolen

We didn't see who the aggressor was, but small blind Bob Nolen got his last 10,400 in on the river in a battle of the blinds, with {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{j-Hearts} on the felt. Nolen tabled {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for the nuts and scooped up the double to get back above starting stack.

Ali's Flush Good

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante

With 3,600 in the pot on a {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop, the hijack bet 2,300 after both players in the blinds checked. Ricky Ali called from the small blind, as did the player in the big blind. The turn came {j-Hearts} and action was again checked to the hijack. He bet 3,000, Ali called, and the big blind folded. Ali then led out 9,000 on a {5-Spades} river and the hijack ended up calling after about a minute in the tank.

Both players tabled their cards, with Ali showing {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a turned flush to beat his opponent's turned set with {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.
