Day 1b of Event #7: $2,200 Warm Up Completed; Rheem Remains

Day 1b of Event #7: $2,200 Warm Up from the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party has been completed with all remaining players in the money.

After 18 levels on Day 1b, it has come to a close with 258 entrants (including 50 reentries) sitting down throughout the day. Only 39 of them will return with chips for Day 2. It’s worth mentioning, that for those that did make Day 2, there will be an enforced 30-second shot clock in play. Players will have time extension cards they can use during the day's play.

Some great and well known players came and went today, including Pavlo Veksler, Florian Duta, Melika Razavi, Dzmitry Urbanovich, and two-time bracelet winner Manig Loeser just to name a few.

Dzmitry Urbanovich
Dzmitry Urbanovich

Some of of the most notable players returning with chips for Day 2 are Chino Rheem (237,000), Pavel Plesuv (980,000), and Artur Martirosyan (401,000).

Simon Higgins (870,00) busted his first bullet and then with what seemed like a blink of an eye, span his 50,000 starting stack after reentering to almost 500,000 at one point. Rheem had some good fortune midway through the day after he went on a busting spree, getting three of them in quick succession. Ian Gascoigne also enjoyed an excellent second half of the day, returning with 368,000 chips.

The bubble ended when the field went down from 42 to 39, with three players apparently busting in one hand to take all the remaining players to Day 2.

With a $2,000,000 guarantee, it looks highly likely that will be smashed as there are still two flights remaining and they’ve already had 440 entrants. Anyone that busted Day 1a or Day 1b can jump back into the action (and reenter once per flight) for Day 1c and 1d, which will both run on Saturday, August 27.

PokerNews will bring you all the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party updates live from the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Casino in North Cyprus.

Veksler Sent to The Rail Before The Money; Plesuv The Beneficiary

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Pavlo Veksler
Pavlo Veksler

After Pavlo Veksler opened from the button to 17,000, Pavel Plesuv moved all in from the small blind. The big blind folded and Veksler called off for his last 170,000 or so, putting the Ukrainian at risk.

Pavlo Veksler: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Pavel Plesuv: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

It was a classic flip, with the board of {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} benefitting Plesuv, as he held up to send Veksler to the rail. The man that sits atop the Moldova all-time money list has increased his stack to a very healthy amount. He will be certainly one to watch if he makes it to Day 2 with a stack like he currently has. His fellow compatriot, Dragos Trofimov (who sits second on that list) was pictured next to Chino Rheem earlier today, but has since bust.

Gascoigne On The Ascendancy

Level 15 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ian Gascoigne
Ian Gascoigne

Three players were at the turn with 40,500 in the middle and a monotone board of {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, the hijack bet 17,000 and was called by Ian Gascoigne in the big blind, but the bet garnered a fold from the player in middle position.

The {9-Clubs} completed and paired the board. The hijack bet 26,000 but was met with a raise of 56,000 from Gascoigne. The hijack who was enjoying a massage looked disgusted with the raise, shaking their head in disbelief.

The hijack folded their hand and Gascoigne showed the {a-Hearts} for the flush. Gascoigne has gained an above-average stack.

Higgins Spinning It Up Well

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Simon Higgins
Simon Higgins

Simon Higgins had to rebuy late in the day today after busting his first bullet. He's done very well since though.

Higgins was found heads-up against the cutoff. From the big blind, Higgins fired 100,000 into a pot of 130,000 on a board of {8-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{k-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. His opponent went deep into thought taking a chip and rubbing it against his forehead.

Eventually, his cards hit the muck and Higgins has increased his stack to almost half a million now.

Rheem On A Busting Spree

Level 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

With 33,000 in the middle on a flop of {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades}, Chino Rheem bet 15,000 from the hijack and was called by Panayiotis Vassiliou who was under the gun.

The {5-Spades} fell on the turn and Rheem fired a bet of 30,000. Vassiliou went deep into the tank for over two minutes before moving all of their chips across the betting line for 93,000. Rheem immediately called.

Panayiotis Vassiliou: {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Chino Rheem: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Vassiliou had an open-ended straight draw, while Rheem had second nuts with a set of queens. Vassiliou did not the river as the {3-Clubs} completed the board to send the Cypriot to the rail and Rheem claims another victim and huge pot.

Groofi Sends Uhara To The Rail

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Asaf Groofi
Asaf Groofi

After Asaf Groofi had opened in the hijack to 4,000, the cutoff and button both called. With action Motokatsu Uhara in the small blind, he moved all in for 31,700. Groofi smooth called and the other two players folded, putting Uhara at risk.

Motokatsu Uhara: {a-Spades}{6-Spades}
Asaf Groofi: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Uhara was in bad shape. A {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs} board ran out and the dealer accidentally mistakenly called it a shop, but the players pointed out Groofi had made a flush and Uhara took his exit graciously.

Liftoff For Tsoy As Pocket Rockets Send Him Into The Stratosphere

Level 10 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Oleg Tsoy
Oleg Tsoy

With an early position raise before him, Oleg Tsoy had flat called next to act. The button then made it 14,200 and the original raiser moved all in for 42,400. Tsoy then flat called and the button flat called too.

Before a flop could be dealt, Tsoy had blind shoved for 41,900 and the button got a count before deciding to let his holding go on the {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} board, putting cards on their backs.

Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Oleg Tsoy: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

A great spot for Tsoy, who had his opponent crushed. Neither held a club in their hand so after the {8-Clubs} fell on the turn, he just had to avoid another club to dodge chopping the pot.

A {6-Diamonds} completed the board and Tsoy took down a more than 127,000 chip pot.

Florian Duta and Pavlo Veksler were mixing it up on a {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} river, with Duta continuing from the button for 13,500 versus Veksler, in the cutoff, the pot was around 40,000 prior to the call that the Ukrainian made.

Going to a {k-Hearts} turn, Duta slowed down, checking back after Veksler checked in flow.

On the {5-Clubs} river, Veksler lead for 32,000. Action was on the Romanian who said ''I wish I would've gone all in on the king'', before folding the river.

Rheem Jams It Into Trofimov

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Chino Rhem
Chino Rhem

With a board reading {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Chino Rheem had bet 13,000 from early position into Dragos Trofimov on his direct left. Trofimov made the call and they saw a turn.

The {6-Clubs} brought an all in from Rheem for about 45,000, which was approximately a pot-sized bet. Trofimov almost beat him into the pot, but not with chips, as his two cards hit the muck very quickly facing the jam.

Artur Matirosian
Artur Matirosian

There were 11,500 chips in the pot at the turn with the board showing {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Artur Martirosyan bet 11,500 from middle position. Ran Azor in the big blind raised to 25,000 and was called by Martirosyan.

The river brought the {k-Spades}. Ran Azor moved all in for 32,000 and was snap-called by Martirosyan.

Ran Azor: {j-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Artur Martirosyan: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Azor flopped the straight on a monotone board but Martirosyan found a boat on the river to eliminate Azor and moved them to the top of the standings.
