Oppenheim Goes Runner-Runner; Cripples Selbst

David Oppenheim just got a little help from the deck to pull well ahead of his heads-up opponent Vanessa Selbst.

On a board showing {7-?} {4-?} {9-?}, David led out with a bet, Vanessa raised, David reraised all in and Vanessa made the call:

Selbst: {4-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}
Oppenheim: {A-?} {A-?}

Vanessa's hand remained best through the turn, as the dealer burned and turned the {K-Hearts}, but another king on the river counterfitted her two pair, giving David the pot.

According to Tournament Emcee Jordan Siegel, "Selbst has a few chips left."

Little First Out in Diamonds

Jonathan Little - eliminated
Jonathan Little - eliminated
Jonathan Little was crippled earlier in a huge pot against Huck Seed. Left with about 3,000 chips and blinds already up to 200 and 400, Little open-shoved from the button with {Q-Clubs} {9-Clubs}. Seed woke up with the red tens and made an easy call. A board of {6-?} {6-?} {5-?} {8-?} {9-?} sent Seed through to the Round of 32.

Brad Garrett turned in his chair after the hand was concluded. "Huck Seed. What happend my brother?" he asked. Seed made a fist-pumping motion and stated that he had won.

"Alright," said Garrett. "You gonna go back to your trailer, or are you gonna hang out?"

Benyamine Doubles; Pulls Even with Hansen

David Benyamine has just doubled through heads-up opponent Gus Hansen to bring their match back to even.

The two exchanged raises before the flop and Gus opted to move all in dark, before the dealer spread a {2-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {6-Spades} flop. David made the call and tabled the {K-Spades} {Q-Spades}, revealing a flush draw and two over cards; Hansen flipped over {A-?} {10-?} offsuit.

The {5-Clubs} fell on the turn -- a solid card for Hansen, who needed to dodge a king, a queen or any spade on the river to eliminate Benyamine. 5th Street fell in favor of the Frenchman, however, as the dealer tabled the {4-Spades}, giving Benyamine a flush to stay alive.

Hansen Out in Front; Yeh Sleepy

Gus Hansen is out to an early lead after moving all in on the river against David Benyamine. Benyamine tanked for three solid minutes (pretty significant when levels are only 15 minutes long) before folding his hand.

On one of the other outer tables, Kenny Yeh, a WSOP dealer for the last five years, drew Phil Laak in the first round. So far Yeh has done most of the talking at the table. He's complained three times already that he needs a coffee to wake himself up.

"Lotta noise, no action"

So said Tournament Emcee Jordan Siegel as he announced the first all in and call moment of the Diamonds Bracket's opening round matches.

Antonio Esfandiari and Kenny Tran got it all in before the flop, both holding ace-king.

"Kenny is ahead. He has two flush draws," said Siegel as the players revealed their cards:

Esfandiari: {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}
Tran: {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}

A rainbow flop without a club was spread by the dealer, ensuring a chop.

The Action So Far

Most of the outer tables are surprisingly quiet, letting Brad Garret and Annie Duke, seated at the feature table, play to the cameras and the crowd. Garrett seems to be in his element and Duke, to her credit, is making herself out to be an excellent foil.

Fairly surprising that there is no chatter between Kenny Tran and Antonio Esfandiari, and so far not a peep out of the ever-talkative Phil Laak. Laak did just run over to the rail for a quick word with an attractive woman who was not Jen Tilly. It looked like he gave her some money, presumably to get him something to eat or drink.

We're just unhappy that he sent her out of the room.

And They're Off

The sixteen Diamonds bracket players are in their seats and cards are in the air. Annie Duke and TV personality Brad Garrett are on the feature table. One last minute change to note: Layne Flack is NOT playing. His seat is occupied by David Oppenheim.

Diamonds Bracket Match-Ups

The sixteen players in the Diamonds Bracket will take to the felt next, starting at approximately at 4:00 p.m. local time:

Feature Table:
Annie Duke v. Brad Garrett

Kenny Tran v. Antonio Esfandiari

Greg Raymer v. Jennifer Harman

Kenny Yeh v. Phil Laak

Vanessa Selbst v. Layne Flack

David Benyamine v. Gus Hansen

Huck Seed v. Jonathan Little

Chad Brown v. Glen Chorny

Hearts Bracket Concludes

After 95 minutes of play, that's it for the Hearts bracket. Allen Cunningham was the first player to bid adieu, sent home by a dapper Sam Farha. He was soon joined by a bevy of his Full Tilt colleagues, including Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel and the Professor, Howard Lederer. Johnny "The Orient Express" Chan was derailed by Eli Elezra. Elezra was joined in the winner's circle by 2007 WSOP Main Event Champion Jerry Yang, and WSOP bracelet winners Scott Fischman and David Williams.

We're now on a short break. In the interim, consider who you like in tomorrow's Round Two Hearts bracket matches:

Eli Elezra v. Erick Lindgren

David Williams v. Scott Fischman

John Phan v. Jerry Yang

Sam Farha v. Peter Eastgate

Williams Gets the Best of Tran

David Williams moves on
David Williams moves on
The last of the Hearts bracket matches is over. David Williams enjoyed a four-to-one chip advantage over JC Tran when Tran open-shoved preflop with {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. Williams had a pair of sevens in the hole and quickly called. The flop was all small cards, {4-?} {8-?} {9-?}. When the turn paired the board nines, giving Tran a few extra outs, Williams flashed a wry smile.

"Now I see where this is going," he said. "This is some B.S." But in fact, he had nothing to worry about; the river was the {J-Clubs}, which didn't improve Tran. Williams dragged the pot and as a result had all of the chips in front of him. He will be back tomorrow to play one of only two players to cash in this event every year since its inception -- Scott Fischman.
