Oppenheim Outflips Tran, Advances to Quarterfinals

Oppenheim and Tran, on the final hand
Oppenheim and Tran, on the final hand
David Oppenheim's fairy tale run through this tournament will live to see another round. Oppenheim was a last-minute substitution for Layne Flack after Flack had a "driving-related incident" with the City of Las Vegas police in the early hours of Friday morning. Oppenheim knocked off Vanessa Selbst in Round One, Phil Laak in Round Two, and has just defeated 2008 World Series of Poker Heads-Up Champion Kenny "Sick Call" Tran in Round Three.

Tran, on the short stack, open-shoved from the button with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}. Oppenheim called with {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} and made his small pair hold up on a board of {J-Hearts} {2-Spades} {8-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {9-Spades}. He advances to the quarterfinals, where he will face Huck Seed.
