Day 2 Dawns

Welcome back to Casino du Liban for Day 2 of the largest tournament the Middle East has ever seen. The 207 players who began this Lebanese Poker Championship some 24 hours ago have been nearly cut in half, and the remaining 111 of them will return today to fight their way towards the final table. It should be quite a long day as we'll battle the fantastic structure in our quest to find the final nine before sunrise.

We're without Joe Hachem today, his Championship Event cut short when he found himself on the wrong end of a coinflip for the rest of his chips in the middle of Day 1. We still have a short-stacked Nenad Medic and Raymond Rahme with us though, while notable Chris Karagulleyan will begin this middle day near the top of the pecking order. Everyone's looking up at Nicolas Zakhem though, chip leader for much of Day 1.

We'll be getting going in just about 20 minutes, so grab your pita and your hummus and join us back here for the start of play.

Double or Nothing For Salem

Nicolas Salem was all in preflop for about 14,000 holding {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}. Tony Eid was in there as the would-be eliminator, but his {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} was in a dominated position.

The board ran out safe for the at-risk Salem, coming {5-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {2-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. With his pair of nines, ace kicker, Nicolas Salem picks up an early double of his own, sitting just shy of 30,000 now.

Push/Fold Time For the Shorties

Khalil Tawil (on Day 1) - Eliminated
Khalil Tawil (on Day 1) - Eliminated
Two more double-up shots here in the early flurry of all ins:

Khalil Tawil had about 25,000 chips left, and they all went in preflop when he looked down at {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}. Ramez Haddad looked him up, turning over {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}, and the race was on.

Things would turn sour for Tawil as the board ran out {J-Spades} {8-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {5-Spades}, and Haddad's nut flush marks the first elimination of the day.

*****

At the same time on an adjacent table, Nohad Abou Jaoude was all in before the flop with {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}. Maged Khoury, fresh off his own double up, made the call to put Jaoude at risk, tabling {9-Hearts} {9-Spades}.

Jaoude was sitting pretty for a double up, but it was not meant to be. The dealer ran out the community cards {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}, and Khoury comes charging from behind to make the winning set of nines, eliminating Jaoude from Day 2.

Enter Karagulleyan

Big stack Chris Karagulleyan just came sprinting into the room a few minutes late. He's dropped about 2,000 chips in blinds and antes, but the good news is he can afford to take a small hit like that; he still has a large pile of more than 136,000 chips to work with.

Medic Looking For Action

Nenad Medic has been very patiently waiting for a spot to get all in. Finally, we found him sticking his last 4,000 little chips into the pot, first in from middle position. The table folded all the way around to the blinds, and they each quickly mucked their hands in turn. Medic flashed his {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}, unfortunately getting no action. Still, stealing the blinds and antes gets him up to 6,100 now.

Laham Eliminates Hachem

Rabih Hachem opened to 9,000 preflop before Nadia Laham made it 18,000 to go.

Hachem tanked for a little, before moving his last 28,000 into the pot with Laham making the call.

Hachem: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Laham: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} to see Hachem hit the rail as Laham pushes to 67,000 in chips.

Nenad Medic Eliminated

As Nenad Medic started heading towards the door, we quickly stopped him to see how he had been eliminated.

Medic stated that he pushed his last 5,600 into the middle holding pocket sixes, but lost the race against Ace-Queen.
