Petronack Pressures Beasy

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 5,000 ante

Joseph Beasy was on the button and opened to 20,000. He was three-bet by Jeff Petronack to 50,000 from the big blind. He asked for confirmation of the amount and then thought for another 15 seconds before putting out chips to make the call. The flop came {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

"I'm all in," said Petronack, effectively putting Beasy to the test for his remaining 185,000. Beasy took 10 seconds to consider his decision and then sent his cards to the dealer, resulting in a won pot for Petronack to bring him back over 300,000 in chips.

Joseph Beasy
Joseph Beasy

Joseph Beasy opened to 25,000 from the button and was three-bet all in by Jeff Petronack out of the big blind. Beasy called and the two were off to the races.

Joseph Beasy: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Jeff Petronack: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Beasy was on the short end of a coin flip before the runout and would stay that way as the board ran out {3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, sending him home in fourth place and bringing the tournament officially into the money.

Petronack Picks Off Matakis

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 5,000 ante

Jeff Petronack opened to 20,000 on the button and Ian Matakis defended his big blind. Both players checked to the river on a board of {k-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}, where Matakis fired out 30,000. Petronack thought for a bit and then made the call.

Matakis showed {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for air, prompting Matakis to table {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, showing that he made the correct call with ace-high to the board's pair of kings to earn him the pot and take him over a half-million in chips in the process.

However, Matakis took back a bit from Petronack just moments later to take chip counts to their current totals.

Jon Hanner Eliminated in 3rd Place ($12,897)

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 5,000 ante
Jon Hanner
Jon Hanner

Jon Hanner opened to 24,000 from the button and Ian Matakis went all in over the top of him from the small blind. Jeff Petronack folded from the big blind and Hanner called off his remaining 114,000 or so.

Jon Hanner: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Ian Matakis: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The two were in a classic coin flip situation with Hanner needing to hold to stay alive in the tournament. The flop {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{6-Diamonds} was of no help to him, giving Matakis a pair of kings. Things would only get worse as the turn {a-Spades} and river {a-Hearts} completed the runout, giving Matakis the nuts as Hanner was sent to the rail as the third-place finisher, earning $12,897 for his efforts.

Matakis Takes the Chip Lead

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 5,000 ante

Ian Matakis was in the small blind and opened to 25,000. Jeff Petronack defended his big blind and the flop came {2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Petronack checked to Matakis, who made a continuation-bet of 20,000. Petronack called.

The turn was {k-Diamonds} and Petronack checked again. Matakis continued, firing another 45,000. Petronack thought for a bit and then called. Both players then checked the river {9-Clubs} to take the hand to showdown.

Petronack showed {a-Clubs}{4-Spades} for ace-high and a busted wheel draw. Matakis tabled {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of fives and had the pot shipped his way, claiming a five-to-four chip lead in the process.

Matakis Extends the Lead

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 5,000 ante
Ian Matakis
Ian Matakis

Ian Matakis opened his small blind to 25,000 and Jeff Petronack defended. The two went to a flop of {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and Petronack check-called a continuation-bet of 18,000 from Matakis.

Action on the turn {6-Spades} went check-check to bring the river {6-Hearts}. Petronack cut out 65,000 in front of him into two stacks of five T5,000 chips with three more on top of them and then slid the bet forward. Matakis called.

Petronack flung his cards face-down into the center of the table upon being called and Matakis did the same, winning the pot at showdown without needing to show his cards to do so. With the pot, Matakis now has over 75 percent of the chips in play as the match continues.
