One for Whammy

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Sammy Whammy
Sammy Whammy

Sammy Whammy was in the process of collecting a pot from an all-in preflop situation with Steve Bertsch that left Bertsch hitting the rail as one of the first bust-outs of the day. Whammy was kind enough to fill in the action after the fact.

Whammy opened to 15,000 from under the gun and action folded around to Bertsch, who shoved his last 35,000 or so in from the big blind. Whammy made the call and they were off to the races.

Steve Bertsch: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Sammy Whammy: {j-Spades}{q-Spades}

A jack on the flop was all Whammy needed to pull in front. He held as the turn and river were unable to improve Bertsch beyond Whammy's jacks, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.

A field of 62 will return Sunday to Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN to play under one roof for the first time.

The 2019 Fall Poker Classic $1,100 Main Event saw 376 entries fire across two days at the $300,000 guaranteed tournament. The guarantee was exceeded with a total prize pool of $364,720, and all returning players have their eyes set on the top prize of $80,241.

Day 1a chip leader Jeff Petronack enters the day atop the counts with a massive stack of 377,500. His stack was unmatched by anybody from Day 1b, though 11 players from that flight come into the day ahead of Day 1a’s second-place finisher Rob Wazwaz (168,500).

Of those 11, Steven Belland (243,000) bagged the top stack from Day 1b. Others to enter the day with above 200,000 in chips include Cody Jaeschke (226,500), Justin Thurlow (217,500), and Kou Vang (211,500).

Just 45 places will be paid, meaning everybody still has work to do before locking up a first-level payout of $2,006. Plenty of formidable opponents still remain throughout the entire leader board, including former champions Brad Berman (88,500), Scotter Clark (61,000), and Nghia “3 Putts” Le (38,500).

Cards fly at 12:30 p.m. local time with 40 minute levels for the duration of the tournament, beginning at with Level 15 (2,000/4,000/4,000). They will escalate as necessary until a winner has been determined, with the big-blind ante being cut in half when four players remain.

Who will be the next Main Event champion of this long-running series? Stay tuned to PokerNews to find out.
