Jaka Starts Day 3 On Top

Faraz Jaka
Faraz Jaka

Welcome to Day 3 of the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event. Our starting field of 1,072 is down to just 183 players, 160 of which will make the money in the earlier stages of the day. Leading the way is Faraz Jaka, with 902,500, well ahead of his nearest competitor (Cristian Folescu with 555,500).

Still in the hunt for Team PokerStars Pro is Arnaud Mattern (340,500), Leo Fernandez (324,000), Luca Pagano (280,000), Joao Nunes (202,000), Christian De Leon (144,000), Gualter Salles (122,000), Barry Greenstein (102,000), Noah Boeken (97,000), Liv Boeree (90,500), Juan Manuel Pastor (87,500), and Pat Pezzin (64,000). Team Online is well represented, too, as Randy Lew (146,500), Shane Schleger (137,500), and Anders Berg (55,000) still remain.

The plan is for another six levels to be played today. Cards should be in the air in about 15 minutes, so keep it here at PokerNews throughout the day for all of the exciting action as it unfolds.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

After what must have been close to an hour of announcements and instructions to the dealers and players, T.D. Mike Ward has issued the command, and the cards are in the air on Day 3!

Geyer Busts Alvarado

JC Alvarado was all in preflop for 37,500 with the {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} against the {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for Adam Geyer. The flop came down {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and kept Geyer in front with his pair. Alvarado did add a straight draw.

The turn was the {K-Spades} and put Alvarado in front with a pair of kings. The river, though, landed with the {9-Hearts} and Geyer was able to spike a gutshot straight to win the hand and eliminate Alvarado from the tournament.

Last year, Geyer ended Day 2 of this event with the chip lead and went on to finish in 45th place for $52,000. He's up to 245,000 now and very much alive to make another deep run this year.

A Strong Hand

Carlos Mortensen and Warren Strong checked with the board reading {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. The {5-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn, and Strong tossed 19,000 chips in front of him. Mortensen tank-called.

The {7-Clubs} completed the board, and both players checked again. Strong tabled {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for nines and fives, Mortensen mucked, and Strong raked in the pot.

Loosing Loos

We've just bid an early farewell to one of our few remaining ladies in the field. The action began with Phil Collins opening to 12,000 from the cutoff, and Galen Hall made a three-bet to 28,000 next door. In the small blind, Jantje Loos raised the rest of her ~50,000 chips into the pot, and Collins folded fairly quickly. Hall made the call, though, and the cards were on their backs with Loos at risk.

Showdown
Hall: {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
Loos: {J-Clubs} {J-Spades}

Hall's horsey pulled out to a quick lead on the {Q-Spades} {7-Hearts} {5-Spades}, and Loos would not be able to catch back up. The turn {A-Diamonds} and river {Q-Hearts} ended up making him a full house, and Loos has been forced off to the rail as one of the first casualties of this Day 3.

Towers on the Secondary Featured Table

Chip leader Faraz Jaka and the third-place stack of Erik Cajelais have drawn the same table today, and the production staff has put them on the secondary featured table. We noticed them playing a pot together a moment ago, so we hustled over to see a {10-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {2-Spades} board out on the table and about 45,000 chips in the pot. Cajelais checked and called a bet of 34,000 from Jaka, and he check-called another 58,000 behind the {10-Hearts} river.

We never got to see Cajelais' cards, because Jaka's {A-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} was good enough to win him the pot.

With some early movement, Jaka has moved back up over the million-chip mark.
