Cheong Busts Jianpeng

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

It has all gone wrong for Zhao Jianpeng today and his tournament is now over courtesy of Macau’s Sam Cheong. Pre-flop it was Jianpeng who waa the initial aggressor, making it 7,500 to go from middle position and action folded around to Sam Cheong in the big blind.

Cheong squeezed his hole cards and looked back up at Jianpeng before shipping for 143,000. That’s a huge raise, and a fairly quick one and Jianpeng sat back in his chair and folded his arms while checking Cheong out.

Wearing his trademark Subzero-style face mask Cheong was giving nothing away and Jianpeng looked torn between calling or folding. Cheong had him covered so it was a big decision for Jianpeng’s tournament life.

Eventually Jianpeng shrugged his shoulders and slammed down the remainder of his 100k stack into the pot and the cards were turned over.

Zhao Jianpeng: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Sam Cheong: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Jianpeng was the at-risk player but hit the {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop hard to a huge groan from Cheong, who sat holding his head in his hands. However, the {q-Spades} turn saw Cheong almost leap out of his seat in delight and he gave an excited cry of ‘Yes!’ as he hit top set to take the lead.

That left Jianpeng drawing to the deck’s sole remaining ten, which did not make an appearance on the river and he headed for the rail while Cheong stacked up to 282,000.

Gonzales Wakes Up

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

We caught a blind on blind battle between Martin Gonzales and chip leader Weizhou Zha and discovered that Gonzales is quite the talker.

While we do not know what the Filipino player’s initial open from the small blind was we do know that Zha had re-popped the action to 13,000 and Gonzales had pulled the trigger and moved all-in for 104,500.

“Why so much?” quizzed Zha.

“I’m sleepy and I can go back to bed if I lose,” replied Gonzales glibly.

Gonzales looks pretty awake to us, if a little laid back and after tanking for a good couple of minutes Zha decided to let it go. That seemed to wake Gonzales up a little and he sprang into action stacking up his newly won chips, climbing to 117,500 after the hand while Zha drops a little but is still the frontrunner with a stack of 439,000.

Double for Luo

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Xixiang Luo
Xixiang Luo

Xixiang Luo had fired three bullets to get this far, finally earning his Day 2 seat on yesterday’s Day 1C. It appears like Luo will be sticking around a little longer and has just earned himself a double against a grumpy tablemate who wishes to remain nameless.

Luo was the initial aggressor from middle position and his opponent, sitting in the small blind, had re-raised to 21,500, only to see Luo snap ship for 66,000 in total.

The small blind thought long and hard over the call but eventually chose to make it and the cards were turned over.

Small blind: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Luo: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

Luo was in great shape and maintained his lead the whole way when the board ran out {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{k-Clubs}{8-Spades} and he doubled to 136,500.

Tinhou Busts Cheng

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Sun Tinhou made it 11,000 to go from middle position and Taiwan’s Chiu Tzu Cheng quickly shipped her remaining 58,000 into the center of the table.

Tinhou had Chen covered, but the call would be for a significant portion of his chips should he chose to make it. Make it he did however, and the cards were turned over.

Chiu Tzu Cheng: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Sun Tinhou: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Cheng was the at-risk player and held a dominated hand and while she spiked top pair on the {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop, this also gave Tinhou Broadway. The {3-Hearts} turn and {9-Clubs} river completed the hand and we lose another while Tinhou stacks up to 175,000.

Stack Check

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

It appears that Lin Yong has edged into the chip lead, with Anson Yan Shing Tsang, who we have yet to catch in action today, is currently sharing the second place berth with Weizhou Zha, with Haoyu Hu rounding out the top four. There are now 90 players still in contention but Bobbie Suri is not one of them and while we missed his exit hand the Indian player's seat is now empty.

Break Time

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

It's break time once more and the 90 remaining Main Event players are on a short 10-minute break. There will be just two more levels left when play resumes.

Level: 17

Blinds: 2,500/5,000

Ante: 500

Sheng Busts Wang

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Play had not long re-started after the break and there was an all-in confrontation on table two. It folded around to Chen Sheng in the cutoff and he made it 12,500 to go and Zhong Wang quickly moved all-in from the button for a little under 50,000.

Sheng thought it over, counted down his stack (he had roughly 220,000 behind) and decided he had enough chips to make the call and did so.

Zhong Wang: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Chen Sheng: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

It was a good old-fashioned race and the {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop was a good one for Wang, keeping his pocket sixes in front. The {3-Clubs} turn kept Wangs’s lead and he seemed primed for a double before the unwelcome appearance of the {a-Clubs} river.

Sheng stood up to shake Wang’s hand and he headed for the exit while Sheng stacked up to 270,000.

Back-to-back Bust Outs

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Players are falling thick and fast now and we have just had two consecutive bust outs on the same table in back-to-back hands.

In the first it was Sun Xijie the man wielding the executioner’s axe to send the unfortunate Bao Jun to the rail with the two getting all the chips in pre-flop.

Jun was the man to shove first with {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} and Xijie made the call with {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and the flop fell {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. While Jun held the lead Xijie had flopped the nut flush draw which immediately came in on the {j-Hearts} turn to leave Jun drawing dead and he headed for the exit while Xijie stacked up to 160,000.

The very next hand Alex Shen Zheng and Luo Xian got all the chips in with Xian the man to pull the trigger with {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} and Zheng making the call with {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

Zheng paired his king on the {9-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop, and while Xian had the {q-Clubs} in hand Zheng had the {a-Clubs} for the nut flush re-draw, which he hit on the {10-Clubs} turn to send Xian packing while Zheng stacked up to 300,000.
