Dominik Nitsche Fails to Take From Stefan Schillhabel

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

With 240,000 in the pot and a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, Dominik Nitsche checked from the big blind holding the {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Stefan Schillhabel bet 70,000 from the cutoff with the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}.

Nitsche woke up with a check-raise to 160,000, Schillhabel just called, and then both players checked the {4-Clubs} turn.

When the {2-Clubs} completed the board on the river, Nitsche checked again and then folded to a bet of 1 million from Schillhabel.

Action folded to Dominik Nitsche on the button and he moved all in for 560,000. Steffen Sontheimer, who was in the small blind, moved all in over the top and drove Stefan Schillhabel out of the hand.

Nitsche: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Sontheimer: {a-Spades}{3-Spades}

Nitsche was drawing to two live cards, but not after the {k-Spades}{a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop paired Sontheimer's ace. Thee {9-Clubs} turn left Nitsche drawing dead, and he took his leave from the tournament in fifth place after the {q-Hearts} was run out on the river.e

Nick Shulman Makes Tough Call to Double Into Chip Lead

Level 23 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

With 1.14 million already in the pot and a board reading {5-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, Nick Schulman checked holding the {10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Steffen Sontheimer moved all in with the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

Sontheimer was essentially bluffing, and Schulman agonized over what to do. He used a time extension and eventually spiked in some chips to call off. It was the right call and he scooped a 2.43 million pot because of it.

Ace on the River Saves Matt Hyman

Level 23 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Matt Hyman got his stack of 1.065 million all in preflop and was racing against Steffen Sontheimer.

Sontheimer: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Hyman: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

It was a race, but Hyman needed to improve to stay alive. Neither the {j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop nor {2-Hearts} turn did it for him, but you know from the title of this post what was coming... the {a-Hearts} on the river!

Hyman doubled into the chip lead while Sontheimer fell to the extreme short stack.

Nick Schulman raised to 130,000 from the button and then called when Steffen Sontheimer, who celebrated a birthday two days ago, moved all in for 325,000 from the small blind.

Schulman: {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Sontheimer: {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The {j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop gave Schulman an open-ended straight draw, but it was the {9-Hearts} turn that would give him the lead. The {8-Hearts} river was a blank for Sontheimer and he took his leave in fourth place.
