Petrangelo Wins Big From Zang

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

A sizable pot has just played out between Shunu Zang and Nick Petrangelo with the latter coming out on top.

Pre-flop is was Frenchman Imad Derwiche who lit the fuse with an opening raise of 14,000 from middle position. Sitting in the cut off Nick Petrangelo threw in the call before action folded around to Zang in the big blind and he squeezed to 70,000 in total.

While that was enough to get Derwiche to bow out Petrangelo was going nowhere and he quickly threw in the calling chips to take play heads-up to the {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop.

Zang let the 30-second shot clock run down without acting, so this counted as a check and Petrangelo quickly checked it back and the {10-Hearts} landed on the turn to double pair the board.

With the action back on Zang he acted slightly faster this time and led out for a tickly little 10,000 bet, and Petranglo threw in two yellow 5k calling chips to bring both players to the {2-Spades} river.

This is where the fireworks happened and Zang quickly led for 135,000 with Petrangelo calling immediately. The action happened so fast we did not get a chance to see Zang’s hand, but we know he did not have an ace or a pair larger than the two on the board as Petrangelo took down the pot with {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

Petrangelo Finishes Off Zang

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

A second huge hand played out between Nick Petrangelo and Shunu Zang that saw the latter’s tournament come to a close.

We caught the action on the turn with the board reading {q-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Spades} {a-Hearts} just as Zang fired out a bet of what looked to be around 60,000, which Petrangelo quickly called.

The {2-Clubs} river saw Zang push in his remaining chips and Petrangelo called instantly. Zang tabled {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} for a turned set but Petrangelo had flopped huge with {6-Spades}{5-Spades}.

“Nice hand,” said Zang good-naturedly getting up to leave.

“Thanks,” said Petrangelo as he scooped yet another huge pot.

Chen Check Raises Sammartino

Level 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Canlin Chen has been busy over the last two levels, running his tiny stack all the way back up over 100,000. Chen padded this out still further at the expense of tablemate Dario Sammartino after opening the action from under-the-gun with a raise to 16,000.

Sammartino was the only caller and the flop fell {2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, which Chen checked, opening the door for Sammartino to take a stab for 18,000. It looked like the Chinese player was just playing possum though, and Chen quickly check-raised to 42,000 in total.

This sent Sammartino deep into the tank, where he remained as the shot clock ticked down to zero to give Chen the pot.

Loeser Loses Battle of Blinds, Badziakouki Administers Coup De Grace

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Action folded around to Manig Loeser in the small blind and he moved all-in for 110,000. Big blind Steve O’Dwyer peeked down at his cards and quickly called all-in for his last 96,000 and the cards were turned over.

Steve O’Dwyer: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Manig Loeser: {k-Spades}{2-Clubs}

The {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop brought the German no help and the {j-Clubs} turn left him drawing dead, guaranteeing O’Dwyer the double and he climbed to 200,000 while Loeser was left with just 15,000 – 1.5 big blinds.

This found it’s way into the middle the very next hand after action folded around to Loeser on the button with Mikita Badziakouski throwing in the extras needed to make the call.

Badziakouski turned over {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, which was leading Loeser’s {j-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and stayed in front the whole way when the community cards ran out {3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

Loeser’s exit brings the field down to 16 so there play paused for a redraw.
