2014 PokerStars King's Cup Rozvadov: Philipp Hartmann Leads on the Final Day

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Philipp Hartmann
Philipp Hartmann

After an epic day of action featured 12 levels and 186 exits (averaging 15 bust outs per level), Day 2 of the 2014 PokerStars King's Cup in Rozvadov finished on Saturday. The pace of the day was frenetic with so many eliminations, and it was capped off by an additional four, dropping the field from 16 to 12, after the last six hands had been announced. Andreas Weiske, Theodoros Aidonopoulos, Steffen Endres, and Dimitrios Ballas were all knocked out after the clock had been stopped.

Philipp Hartmann finished as the chip leader with 2,621,000. He busted Marek Bartoszewicz with the {A-Spades}{J-Spades} against the {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for a 1,000,000-chip pot and followed it up by knocking out Aidonopoulos with the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} against the {A-Spades}{2-Spades} right at the end for a 1,200,000-chip pot. These two hands put him clear of the rest of the field and over a million chips ahead of second-place's Lena Riemenschneider with 1,584,000.

Riemenschneider's story is particularly fascinating, as she came back as the second shortest stack after the dinner break when there were 68 players remaining. The German lady had just 31,000 with the blinds at 3,000/6,000, but she managed to spin that up into over a million in chips — mostly on the feature table in full view of the live stream. Also through was Day 1c chip leader Petr Targa with 734,000 — the only one of the three Day 1 chip leaders to make it. Finally, former European Poker Tour Prague runner-up Georgios Sotiropoulos has also made it to the last day, and the Greek player has 492,000. Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder had started the day with a healthy stack of 65,800, but the Belgian pro could not manage to get anything going, and he eventually pushed with pocket fours but was called by queens and couldn't improve.

The bubble was reached in Level 16, bursting after just one all-in showdown. Igor Salomasov was the unlucky player, and he had pushed his last 12 big blinds in with the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} to be called by Targa's {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}. The Czech player managed to flop a full house on the {J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} board, and Salomasov couldn't find a queen or running eights on the {8-Diamonds} turn and {9-Diamonds} river. This sent the remaining players into the money, guaranteeing all a minimum of €1,000.

At this point, Sotiropoulos took over the chip lead from Marc Siebroth after managing to double up with jacks against the {A-Spades}{4-Spades}. He then eliminate Siebroth with {A-}{9-} against {A-}{J-} a few hands later. Sotiropoulos also knocked out the overall chip leader at the start of the day, Roman Mikus. The Czech player was short and called all in with the {7-Spades}{6-Spades} against Sotiropoulos' {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, but could not hit enough of a {J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} board.

On Sunday, the tournament will restart at 2 p.m. CET once more and play to a winner, who will take home €50,400 — over a hundred times their initial buy-in. Who will it be? Be sure to follow along with the PokerNews Live Reporting team in order to find out!

Riemenschneider Top from Nowhere

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Lena Riemenschneider
Lena Riemenschneider

At the dinner break, Lena Riemenschneider was the second shortest stack out of the 68 remaining players. She had just 31,000 when the average was 160,000. She was on the feature table so we've not really been able to write much about her on the blog.

Now the feature table is finished for the night, it's clear she's been winning some huge pots. Before this hand she already had over a million in chips when she was checking the river of a {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{K-Spades}{3-Diamonds} board to Ercan Atmaca. The latter moved all in for 228,000 and Riemenschneider thought for a minute before making the call.

Atmaca tapped the table and showed a missed {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Riemenschneider won the pot with {K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

Another Roman Empire Ends

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Roman Mikus
Roman Mikus

There was an opening raise to 26,000 in early position and Roman Mikus called with about 80,000 behind. Georgios Manousos then stuck out a big stack of 25k chips, to cover everyone else.

The initial raiser folded and Mikus called off the rest of his chips.

Manousos: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Mikus: {7-Spades}{6-Spades}

The board ran out {J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and despite flopping a flush draw and turning a pair, Mikus couldn't improve on the river and the Day 1a chip leader was eliminated.

Marc Palatzky and former EPT finalist Konstantinos Nanos have also busted.

Manousos Doubles Through Siebroth; Busts Him Moments Later

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Georgios Manousos
Georgios Manousos

Georgios Manousos is sitting on three-quarters of a million in chips and was more than happy to tell us how he came by them.

Manousos raised to 18,000 preflop from the hijack with {J-}{J-} and Marc Siebroth made it 51,000 in the small blind. Manousos four-bet to 96,000 and Siebroth moved all in. Manousos called and found himself up against {A-Spades}{4-Spades} and the board bricked out completely.

Siebroth was left with around 130,000 and it was only a few hands later that Manousos finished off his opponent with {A-}{9-} against {A-}{J-} - catching a nine on the river.

Igor Salomasov Bubbles the 2014 PokerStars King's Cup

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Igor Salomasov
Igor Salomasov

Igor Salomasov moved all in for around 60,000 from the button and Petr Targa made the call in the big blind. All other hands were completed and hand-for-hand had its first all-in showdown.

Salomasov: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Targa: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} and Targa flopped a full house. Salomasov disgustedly stood up and threw his media card at the table and got ready to leave.

"Wait, wait," said another player. Salomasov obviously wasn't drawing dead.

The {8-Diamonds} on the turn wasn't a queen but it was the next best thing. Now Salomasov could hit the case eight on the river and queen-high would be enough to win.

The river came but it was the {9-Diamonds} and Targa won the pot. Salomasov was knocked out in 80th spot while everyone else was guaranteed at least €1,000.

Siebroth and Mikus Embroiled in Problematic Pot

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Roman Mikus
Roman Mikus

Joining the action on chip leader's Marc Siebroth's table, the German was involved in a pot against former chip leader Roman Mikus. The players were waiting for a ruling, Mikus had about 60,000 and was all in with {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} displayed while Siebroth's cards were face down and a 13,700 bet in front of him.

What had apparently happened was that Mikus had cold four-bet all in over the of Siebroth's three-bet, the original raiser folded and the dealer had wrongly declared that Siebroth had made the call and Mikus had tabled his hand.

The floor staff came over to declare that neither should be disadvantaged and declared that the fairest way was for both players to play a showdown for what was in the pot to the size of Siebroth's 13,700 three-bet.

Siebroth turned over {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and the board came {2-Clubs}{8-Spades}{9-Spades}{Q-Spades}{A-Clubs} giving Mikus the pot. The problem was that no matter who won in this situation, they would be unhappy they didn't receive the full amount.

Siebroth Busts Weis; Wins Huge

With the board reading {4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{J-Clubs} and around 70,000 already in the middle. Marc Siebroth checked and Oliver Weis bet 38,800. Siebroth responded by check-raising all in, covering Weis.

Weis had about 120,000 back at this point and tanked for about three minutes before Roman Mikus called for a clock. At this point, Weis decided to call and Siebroth turned over {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a straight, Weis mucked and the dealer turned over {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

Siebroth has 430,000 - over four times the average.

Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder has been knocked out. He pushed for his last 32,000 with pocket fours and got called by the person he called, "The tightest on the table - as soon as he called, I knew he didn't have deuces or threes..."

The Belgian was right, his opponent had queens and the board bricked out.
