Congratulations to "PowerRanges" on Taking Down First Ever MICOOP for $13,652

The 2021 Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) has now crowned its first champion in Event #1: $100 NLHE [MICOOP Kick-Off, Nightly Stars SE], $30K Gtd after just seven hours of play. Once the last chance saloon had closed for business it was "PowerRanges" left sitting on top, taking down the first major online event in Michigan for a cool $13,652.

"PowerRanges" navigated through a field of 883 players and by the time they began the final table they were sitting on top of the totem pole. The aggressive playstyle and fortuitous run good of "PowerRanges" was too much for their competitors, dropping half of the final table from contention en route to taking down the title, all without losing the lead even once.

One of the biggest threats for the champion during the final table was surely Chris "theduke8605" Ball who was known as "cball86" before Black Friday. Ball seemed beyond excited to be hitting the virtual felts again is definitely someone to watch out for throughout the rest of the MiCOOP events as they look to secure another deep run.

Action of the Day

The immense hype around this event was met in mere minutes, having over 500 entries before the first break which destroyed the guarantee that was set. By the end of late registration, a total of 883 showed up to play, creating an $81,059 prize pool which saw 116 set to be paid.

It was not long after the late registration had closed that the bubble popped. Soon after the money was reached and all remaining runners were then guaranteed some money, it was an absolute elimination fest. Some notables to find a cash were K.C. "LegendKiller88" Vaughan, Patrick "MSPT-HOF" Steele, Mike "PeppSee" Long, Adam "red4novak" Novak, and Eric "eze0302" Rayner who came up just shy of the final table, dropping out in tenth place.

Players did not tighten up in the slightest once the final table was reached, having endless amounts of all-in's throughout the entirety. First to take an exit was "ParryGreen$tein" who shoved their pair of dimes into the ace-queen of "PowerRanges" and failed to gold when the champion his an ace on the flop. Next to go was "3igd@ddy" who found themselves in the middle of a three-way all-in with their king-queen versus ace-king and ace-jack. "3igd@ddy" failed to hit anything and was sent to the rail.

Ball was the next executioner when "ronswansonsmeat" shoved pocket fours, only to see Ball was holding a pair of ladies. A clean board sent a pot to Ball, eliminating "ronswansonsmeat" in seventh place. One of the only bad beats during the final nine, unfortunately, happened to "kdreed1999" when they shoved their queens and found a call from "Buckeye48875 who held tens. A dime in the window was more than enough to take down the pot, shipping "kdreed1999" out the door.

Blinds grew large during five-handed play and although some benefitted from that, it was "BenjaBenny487" who withered down to a short-stack, shoving their last chips in with six-three. Ball snap-called in the big blind with nine-four and both didn't hit a thing as Ball scooped with his higher card. "User103112" saw their short-stack move-in with king-nine, only to see "PowerRanges" call with ace-jack. "User103112" failed to hit and "PowerRanges" extended their lead even more.

"PowerRanges" made quick work of his competition during the final three, first they had Ball shove king-ten into the hockey sticks of "PowerRanges". That pair turned into a set of sticks when the flop rolled out and Ball never recovered, sending him out in third place. Just moments after "PowerRanges" opened with ace-eight of clubs and "Buckeye48875" shoved with ace-three off. "PowerRanges" called and the rest is history.

That wraps it up for the PokerNews live coverage of this event, but tune in tomorrow for all the action.

"Buckeye38875" Eliminated in 2nd Place ($9,753)

The blinds were 125,000/250,000 and "PowerRanges" raised to 500,000 from the button. "Buckeye48875" moved all in for 4,263,032 and "PowerRanges" snap-called, putting their opponent at risk in what would be the last hand of the tournament.

"Buckeye48875": {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}
"PowerRanges": {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

A {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop left "Buckeye48875" all but drawing dead as "PowerRanges" hit a pair with the nut flush draw. The {j-Spades} turn card cemented the pot for "PowerRanges" who then had "Buckeye48875" drawing dead to the {2-Spades} river card. "Buckeye48875" was eliminated in second place, earning a respectable $9,753 for their efforts.

Chris "theduke8605" Ball Eliminated in 3rd Place ($6,968)

The blinds were 125,000/250,000 when action fell on Chris "theduke8605" Ball in the small blind and he elected to shove his 3,405,920 stack. "PowerRanges" snap-called and the two tabled their cards.

Chris "theduke8605" Ball: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}
"PowerRanges": {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

It was a coin flip up until the {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop landed, giving "PowerRanges" a set of hockey sticks. The {9-Hearts} brought a straight draw for Ball but he failed to catch it when a {k-Hearts} completed the board and he was eliminated in third place.

"User103112": {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
"PowerRanges": {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The flop came down {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and the chipleader was still in front with ace-high. A {10-Diamonds} turn and {8-Clubs} river left "User103112" on the losing end of an elimination, exiting in fourth place as "PowerRanges" added another monster pot to their stack.

"BenjaBenny487": {6-Spades}{3-Spades}
Chris "theduke8605" Ball: {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Both players did not hold the prettiest of hands but there was always potential with five cards to come. A {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop brought no excitement and the {a-Diamonds} turn left "BenjaBenny487" in need of some help. A {5-Diamonds} river card cemented the pot for Ball as he sent his opponent out in fifth place.

"kdreed1999": {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
"Buckeye48875": {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

"ronswansonsmeat": {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

"ParryGreen$tein" Eliminated in 9th Place ($927)

Blinds were 40,000/80,000 when "PowerRanges" raised to 171,337 and action then folded around to "ParryGreen$tein" who shoved their 669,322 stack into the middle. The chipleader of the final table called and the two tabled their hands.

"ParryGreen$tein": {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
"PowerRanges": {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

A classic race to the flop where an {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} quickly catapulted "PowerRanges" well in front. A {3-Clubs} turn and {2-Spades} river failed to help the short stack as "ParryGreen$tein" hit the felt, sending all of their chips to "PowerRanges"
