Rivera Rides Again!

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Alex Rivera
Alex Rivera

Niagara Falls Poker Room standout Alex Rivera is now a threat to bag big into the late levels.

He made it 3,600 from middle position with the {10-}{7-} and the big blind defended. They both checked the {10-}{10-}{6-} flop, but the big blind led the {7-} turn for 3,000.

Rivera flatted with a full house and when the big blind bet 6,500 on the {6-} river, Rivera piled it in. The big blind called for his tournament life with the {10-}{k-}, but was on the wrong end of this cooler.

The dealer started chopping up the pot before Rivera explained the nuances of this boat-over-boat debacle to him.

Beshay Cools Olshan

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Peter Beshay
Peter Beshay

Peter Beshay had a lot of chips early on Day 1a, but none late.

After firing a second bullet today, the opposite is now true. A relatively slow start for Beshay was erased moments ago when he got his last 65,000 in the middle after flopping Broadway with the {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} on an {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board.

Niagara Falls Poker Room regular David Olshan paid him off with the {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} in what has to be considered a cooler. The rest of the board included a the {6-Spades} and {8-Clubs} for those keeping score at home.

Beshay is now a good bet to bag a big stack.

DeLollis Leads; Nablo Looms

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jason Nablo
Jason Nablo

Local legend Jason Nablo, who final tabled this event in 2013, just went from 70,000 at the last break to over 200,000 heading into this one.

Big hands included one massive set-over-set set-up and an opportunity to play bluff catcher.

In the meantime, Ron DeLollis still leads on 240,000, but things are tightening at the top.

Sandra Boyle is over 200,000 now and Ladies' Night continues with Cathy Schenone filling up twice to drag big pots and take the spot right underneath DeLollis.

A 10-minute break starts now with the board claiming 65 remaining and two levels to play before the day is done.

Rzeszutek Melts Bielesky; Grabs Lead

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Kyle Rzeszutek
Kyle Rzeszutek

Depew, NY's Kyle Rzeszutek has moved into the chip lead now, relieving Mike Bielesky of all his chips chips and a bowl of chocolate ice cream.

The big hand between the two saw Rzeszutek get it in with {k-}{k-} over Bielesky's {q-}{q-} and hold, melting his six figure stack in an instant.

Tighe Tames DeLollis

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Pat Tighe
Pat Tighe

After grinding a 20,000-chip stack for the better part of the flight, perennial Seneca Niagara contender Pat Tighe is now a threat to bag big, knocking Ron DeLollis off his perch near the top of the counts and taking his place there.

Tighe three-bet from the big blind and was called by Bradley Girdler under the gun and DeLollis on the button. The flop came {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Tighe led for 25,000. Girdler folded and after cutting out raising chips, and tanking for a minute, DeLollis made the call.

It went check-check on the {k-Clubs} turn, but when the {10-Diamonds} river came down and Tighe checked, DeLollis led for 60,000. Tighe beat him to the pot with a call and when DeLollis turned over {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Tighe slammed the {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} down and dragged the healthy pot.

Girdler Leads; Considers Gaddi Mustache

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Not Bradley Girdler
Not Bradley Girdler

Bradley Girdler just got it in with a gutshot straight flush draw against top-pair top-kicker on a king-high board.

He made his flush to drag a massive pot and claim the chip lead now into the flight's final level.

His picture will not appear on these pages, however, as Girdler's job requires he not be identified.

He's now mulling over the idea of a 'Scotty Gaddi' mustache as we head into the last few minutes of the day.

Droege Fires Away

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Max Droege
Max Droege

Max Droege has been min-betting his table to sleep over the past couple of levels, playing a ton of hands, picking up more than his fair share of pots without showdown and moving into a dead heat with Bradley Girdler for the lead.

He did pick off one shorty with {a-}{10-} over {a-}{5-} all in preflop, but he's literally picked up an extra hundred grand by pounding away at his table with a relentless stream of minimum bets.

Girdler Photo Flushed

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

It looks like Bradley Girdler's picture will not be appearing in tonight's Day 1b recap, but not because he doesn't want it taken.

The photo generally features the end-of-day chip leader and since Girdler just lost 80,000 making a flush against a straight flush, he's fallen down the counts and out of the lead with just minutes left in play.
