The Barnacle
The Barnacle

Regular readers of this blog will know Aaron Obstein is often referred to as "The Barnacle." Once he gets in a tournament, it's almost impossible to knock him out.

The man plays the short stack like a champ and never gives up.

His dad Jerry Obstein, who most people around here call "Coach," is suddenly demonstrating some of those same skills on the other side of the room.

He called off with aces up against a flush and was left with barely enough for a small blind. However, he got that in with jack-king off and cracked queens on a king river the very next hand.

He's still only pushing three or four big blinds, but the way the Obstein's play, that could last all night.

Rick Block
Rick Block

Local heros Alex Visbisky and Rick Block are down to one stack.

Visbisky busted out of the one tournament in some kind of flush-over-flush debacle. Lucky for him, Block managed to get it in bad on the other side of the room and find a way out of trouble.

Block ran tens into kings and binked a ten. Their stack is actually the biggest on that side of the room now. Visbisky is playing it with Block keeping a close eye on the action from the rail.

The Blackjacks

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Brother and sister team Anthony "Murph" Gugino and Lynn Gugino still have stacks in both tournaments.

However, Lynn is sitting in front of a 50,000-chip stack that is the biggest on one side of the room right now. It was actually Anthony who ran up the stack, making trip nines and a pair of straights to win a handful of big pots.

Now he's on the other side of the room hoping that luck both follows him there and stays with his sister.

Tim Glab
Tim Glab

The team of Tim Glab and Daniel Lopez are running hot in both tournaments.

All the draws got there in a hand between Glab and Rick Block on one side of the room. Still, Block was unsuccessful in his effort to bluff Glab. As a result, the Block and Alex Visbisky team are down to 4,000.

Glab and Lopez now have 75,000 and the lead on that side of the room. Plus, over on this one they've got a 50,000-chip stack and are making a bid to run deep in both.

Matt Marcinkiewicz
Matt Marcinkiewicz

Mark Roberts was actually rooting against teammate Alex Rivera.

The pair were down to one short stack with Rivera playing it and Roberts was hoping Rivera would bust and he wouldn't have to jump in again. His plan was to hop in a $145 Main Event qualifier running on the other side of the room, but he couldn't sign up until he knew he didn't half to tag back in this event.

With just a minute left in registration for the qualifier, Rivera made quads just to spite him.

In the meantime, the team of Matt Marcinkiewicz and Tad Blaszczak have fired so many bullets into this thing it looks like Marcinkiewicz' massive hipster ginger beard got singed a little. They're on number six combined and only have one short stack to speak of.
