Brian Soja Eliminated in 10th Place ($7,352)

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Brian Soja -10th Place
Brian Soja -10th Place

Mike Lang opened for 90,000 in middle position, and Brian Soja announced a raise when action folded to his big blind. He made it 230,000. Lang shoved all in, and Soja snap-called.

"S***," Lang said, turning over {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and obviously fearing the worst.

He was the one in command though, as Soja tabled {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

"Quick exit this year I guess," Soja said as the dealer spread a flop of {2-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Soja took second in this event last year for just over $50,000.

A {10-Clubs} turn changed nothing, and the {6-Hearts} river meant Soja was the first to exit the final table.

Brian Zekus Eliminated on Final Table Bubble

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Brian Zekus busted in 11th.
Brian Zekus busted in 11th.

Action folded to Brian Zekus, who shoved all in for 292,000. Tony Lazar called in the small blind.

Lazar: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Zekus: {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Zekus' dominated hand improved considerably on the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop. The {10-Clubs} paired the board on the turn, no help to Zekus. A {2-Spades} river meant the final table was set, and a disappointed Zekus silently pushed his stack into the middle.

Players are moving to the final table, at which point stacks will be counted and a dinner break will commence.

"Schneids" Done in 12th

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Mike Schneider got caught reshipping with 86.
Mike Schneider got caught reshipping with 86.

Mike Wilmes opened for 55,000 in the cutoff, and Mike Schneider jammed for about 250,000 on the button. Jason Smith woke up with a reshove in the small blind, and Wilmes followed the big blind into the muck.

Smith: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Schneider: {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Smith was in a very comfortable spot, and the {a-Spades}{7-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop brought Schneider nothing. A {6-Hearts} brought a backdoor prayer, but the {4-Diamonds} river signaled the end for longtime CardRunners pro "Schneids."

Wilmes Drags Biggest Pot Yet, Takes Chip Lead

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Mike Wilmes hit a draw to take a huge pot.
Mike Wilmes hit a draw to take a huge pot.

Three players saw a {7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop for what appeared to be 100,000 each. Ken Pates checked, Todd Lyfoung bet 80,000, and Mike Wilmes made it 250,000 on the button. Pates announced a reraise and he pushed 500,000 into the middle. Lyfoung got out of the way, and Wilmes moved all in for 621,000 and was called.

Wilmes: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Pates: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

Wilmes had a massive draw, while Pates had flopped middle set. The {2-Spades} was a brick on the turn. The dealer placed down a {9-Clubs} river, giving Wilmes the stone nuts, and he now has a chip lead over the field.

Melancon Ousted; Morency Crippled

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Jay Melancon couldn't make his chip lead last.
Jay Melancon couldn't make his chip lead last.

We found Jay Melancon, who began the day with the chip lead, all in for about 200,000 after a flop of {2-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Jim Lawrence made the call.

Lawrence: {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Melancon: {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Melancon needed a club, but he found only spades on the {q-Spades} turn and {9-Spades} river, and the former chip leader made his exit.

At the other table, Don Morency II and Mike Lang got all in on a {6-}{3-}{2-} with Morency II covering.

Morency II: {3-}{3-}
Lang: {6-}{6-}

It was a classic cooler, and after fading the one-outer, Lang now has over 1 million.

Coburn Puts a Beat on Bohn

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Blake Bohn was the victim of a bad beat here on Day 2.
Blake Bohn was the victim of a bad beat here on Day 2.

We found Nes Coburn all in from middle position, and Blake Bohn called off his stack of about 90,000 in the cutoff. Everyone else bowed out.

Coburn: {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Bohn: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Bohn had Coburn dominated, and the {6-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} flop kept him well in front. The {5-Diamonds} turn gave Coburn a flush draw, and the {4-Diamonds} river completed it.

Coburn proclaimed that he had yet to lose a race.

"That's not a race," Bohn said with a laugh. "You know that's as far away from a race as you can get."

"Love this game," Bohn said as he walked away from the table.

Zekus Rockets Up Counts

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Brian Zekus pushes all in with kings.
Brian Zekus pushes all in with kings.

In a pot that occurred during the last level, Brian Zekus dragged a huge three-way all in with {k-}{k-} against a player holding {q-}{q-} and another with {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

More recently, he opened to 16,000 in early position and got three-bet shoved on by a player in the cutoff for 82,000. Zekus called.

Zekus: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The cutoff got up after the {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} gave Zekus a flush draw. The {3-Clubs} hit the turn, and the {q-Hearts} the river, eliminating the cutoff from contention and putting Zekus over the 500k mark.

Smith Over 500,000

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jason Smith has a huge stack early on Day 2.
Jason Smith has a huge stack early on Day 2.

David Abramowicz had already dusted off most of his formerly-leading stack when he opened for what looked like 20,000 in early position. One player called from the cutoff, and Jason Smith made it about 80,000 in the small blind. Abramowicz shoved for not much more, and the cutoff quickly folded before Smith called.

Smith: {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Abramowicz: {a-}{q-}

Smith was dominated, but he found some chop possibility on a {7-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop. A {j-Spades} turned, but the river brought a sweet {8-Diamonds} for Smith, leading to Abramowicz's demise. Smith now has a castle of chips in front of him.

Vang Eliminates Sandness Again

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mark Sandness was the victim of a three-outer.
Mark Sandness was the victim of a three-outer.

It won't be two Mid-States Poker Tour titles in his home state for Mark Sandness, at least not for awhile. Kou Vang, it seems, is his kryptonite.

According to players at the table, Sandness opened for 11,500 in early position and got shoved on by Kou Vang in the big blind. Sandness called it off.

Sandness: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Vang: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Vang's three-outer materialized immediately on the {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop. Fourth and fifth streets were {9-Hearts} and {10-Hearts}, no help to Sandness.

"Sorry, man," Vang said.

Vang, who ousted Sandness from MSPT Golden Gates in March by turning a set of nines all in preflop against Sandness' overcards, now holds two wins by KO over the MSPT Running Aces champion this season.

Zekus Calls Schneider's Monster

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mike "Schneids" Schneider flopped a set in a big pot.
Mike "Schneids" Schneider flopped a set in a big pot.

Four players put in 10,000 preflop, and the {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} hit the felt. Action checked to the last man in the pot, Mike "Schneids" Schneider, who bet 22,500. Brian Zekus called out of the blinds, and Steve Pint shipped all in. Schneider pushed as well.

"You have to have a set, right?" Zekus asked as he tossed his cards into the muck, flipping the {k-Clubs} by accident or on purpose, we couldn't tell.

Schneider nodded as he revealed {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for middle set, miles ahead of Pint's {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The {4-Spades} turn left Pint drawing dead.
