Day 1c Started
Season 6 of Mid-States Poker Tour continues today with Day 1c — the third and final starting flight — from the MSPT Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Last night, 161 entrants took to the felt, which along with Day 1a's 126 brings the current total up 287.
The $200,000 guarantee has already been crushed, and with Day 1c expected to be the biggest flight yet, the question is how high will the prize pool climb?
Among those expected to take part in today's action are former MSPT Golden Gates champ Reza Yazdi, Allen Kessler, Jeff Fielder, Sean Munjal, Mike Harris, MSPT Team Pro Matt Kirby, Aaron Massey, and current MSPT Player of the Year leader Mark Hodge.
All of those players will look to replicate the success of Derek McMaster, who finished atop the Day 1b counts with a stack of 450,000, well ahead of Day 1a chip leader Ross Reichert, who bagged 357,500. All told, 47 players have punched their ticket to Sunday's Day 2 through the first two starting flights.
Day 1c will kick off at 12:00 p.m. local time on Saturday with the plan of playing 16 levels. Late registration and reentries are open all day long, and of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will there every step of the way.

Tyler Corbett, who finished runner-up the last time the MSPT visited Golden Gates Casino, got off to a disastrous start losing about half his chips on the first hand.
We picked up the action on the river with the board reading when Corbett checked and Cuong Van Nguyen bet 5,000. Corbett snap-called, but mucked when Nguyen rolled over the for a straight. A frustrated Corbett claimed to have flopped a set.

With 2,100 in the pot and a flop of , the player in the small blind checked and another player in middle position did the same. Adam Lamphere then bet 1,000 from the hijack, the cutoff folded, and the player in the small blind called. After the middle-position player folded, the dealer burned and turned the .
The small blind checked, and then folded when Lamphere kept the pressure on with a bet of 2,150.

After a player limped from early position, Ralph Massey raised to 400 from middle position. The player on the button called, both blinds folded, and the limper came along to make it three-way action to the flop.
The early-position player checked, Massey continued for 600, and only the button called to see the turn. Massey bet again, this time 1,700, but he couldn't shake his opponent. When the completed the board on the river, action went check-check and Massey shook his head before tabling the for a missed flush. His opponent then rolled over the for the win.

Rodger Johnson opened for 225 from middle position and received a call from the player to his left. The player on the button came along, both blinds folded, and the flop came down . Johnson continued for 500, only the player to his left called, and it was heads-up action to the turn.
Johnson slowed down with a check, but still called when his opponent bet 1,100. Both players then checked the river, which put four diamonds on the board. Johnson's opponent showed the for a flush, and it was good as Johnson took one last look at his cards and sent them to the muck.
Despite losing that pot, Johnson is off to a strong start here on Day 1c.

Tyler Corbett and Cuong Van Nguyen butted heads on the first hand of the day, so it was only fitting they'd clash once more at the tail end of Level 1.
It happened when Corbett limped from the hijack and then called when Nguyen raised to 350 from the small blind. The flop saw Nguyen bet 600, Corbett call, and the appear on the turn. Nguyen bet 1,200, Corbett called, and the completed the board on the river.
Nguyen slowed down with a check, and Corbett bet 3,500. Nguyen snap-called and Corbett sheepishly showed the , which prompted Nguyen to table the for the win.
