Monster Three-Way Pot for the Chip Lead

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Matthew Blagg
Matthew Blagg

We picked up the action on a flop of {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{j-Hearts} when Robert Fortuno checked from the small blind and Matthew Blagg bet 50,000 from the big. Marvin Imutan, the under-the-gun player, called and then Fortuno woke up with a check-raised to 100,000.

Blagg called and then Imutan popped it to 400,000. Fortuno then called before Blagg jammed all in for just over 700,000. Imutan rejammed for 1.2 million and Fortuno thought long and hard before folding the {j-Spades}{5-Spades} face up.

Matthew Blagg: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Marvin Imutan: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

"Pair the board," the Imutan called. Indeed, he was looking to fill up in order to overcome the flopped nuts of Blagg.

The {10-Clubs} turn put out some chop options, but the {a-Diamonds} river was a brick to send the monster pot, and the chip lead, over to Blagg.

Audri Mansour Doubles Big Through Dong Luo

Level 20 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Audri Mansour
Audri Mansour

Dong Luo raised under the gun and was met by a three-bet to 75,000 from Audri Mansour on the button. Both blinds folded, Luo moved all in, and Mansour called off for 400,000 even.

Don Luo: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Audri Mansour: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

It was a flip, and the proverbial coin came down in Mansour's favor when the {7-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop paired her ace.

The {9-Clubs} turn gave Luo a gutshot straight draw, but he failed to catch as the {4-Hearts} bricked on the river.

In addition to the $360 Regional and $1,100 Main Events happening here at the MSPT Sycuan Casino, there are nine other side events awarding trophies.

One of them was Event #2: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha, which played out Friday night. The tournament attracted 75 entrants and offered up a $25,125 prize pool reserved for the final table of eight.

The local San Diego contingent comprised 75% of the final table, but one-by-one they fell to the wayside leaving two "out of towners" to battle heads-up.

After a long day of play, it was Aaron Wallace of North San Juan, California emerged victorious to win the tournament for $8,543 while Tristan Ziemann finished in second place for $5,301.

WSOP Bracelet Winner Nahrain Tamero Falls Short of the Money

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Nahrain Tamero
Nahrain Tamero

Last summer, Nahrain Tamero had a poker dream come true when she topped a 2,126-entry field to win the 2020 WSOP Online Event #31: $1,000 NLH Championship for a hefty $310,832 and a coveted gold bracelet.

Tamero, the only female to win a bracelet in the WSOP.com Online Bracelet Series last summer, spoke about her experience on the PokerNews Podcast, which you can listen to here.

Unfortunately for Tamero, her hope of winning this MSPT Regional Event recently came to an end when she got her last 10 big blinds all in preflop holding {k-}{q-} only to run it smack dab into {a-}{q-}. She failed to get lucky and that was all she wrote for Tamero, who hinted we'll likely see her again at the MSPT Showdown Series here at Sycuan Casino.

MSPT & PLON Join Forces for Today's Ladies Event

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
MSPT Ladies Event
MSPT Ladies Event

Today at 4 p.m. local time, the MSPT Showdown Series at Sycuan Casino will play host to a $200 Ladies Event powered by Poker League of Nations (PLON).

PokerNews recently caught up with PLON founder Lena Evans, who will be in attendance to compete in the tournament as well as other MSPT tournaments.

PokerNews: How did the opportunity to host a ladies event at the MSPT Sycuan come about?

Lena Evans: The opportunity to host an MSPT PLON Powered Ladies Event at Sycuan in San Diego was originally suggested by PLON Executive Committee member Allen Kessler. Allen connected me with MSPT President Bryan Mileski. Bryan and I then organized the details of our partnership together, and the first MSPT PLON event was born! This will be PLON's first live event back since March 2020.

PokerNews: What is the female poker community like in San Diego?

Lena Evans: We have nine casinos located within San Diego County, and multiple card rooms, making the poker community in San Diego extremely dynamic. Being the founder of PLON, and living in San Diego, you can imagine our female poker community is very active. Pre-pandemic, we had a San Diego PLON League, which played for seats to the top tours in San Diego and Las Vegas, including $10k events. During the pandemic, we stayed in action online in friendly games.

PokerNews: What can participants expect from the upcoming event?

Lena Evans: Participants in our PLON Powered Ladies Only MSPT event will enjoy a pre-event meet-up at 2 p.m. with PLON hosted beverages and bites so our ladies from around the USA (including Florida, Minnesota, Illinois, and other states) can enjoy socializing and getting re-acquainted with one another. The $200 ladies event begins at 4 p.m., with 20-minute levels, and late registration through the ninth level.

The winner receives the beautiful MSPT trophy, along with the PLON signature Tiffany & Co. sterling bracelet valued at $400. All final tablists receive a PLON backpack with gifts including apparel from Flop the World (FTW) and PLON merchandise, "The Biggest Bluff" book signed by Maria Konnikova, Solar Rain Water, Spades Sunshades sunglasses, Poker Elephant chips, and other goodies!
