MSPT Sycuan $360 Regional Breaks 1,000 Runners

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

The MSPT Sycuan $360 Regional Event proved to be a massive affair. On Friday, 305 runners competed on Day 1a, and on Saturday an additional 275 partook. For Saturday's third and final flight, 467 entrants entered Day 1c to bring the total field up to 1,047 entries.

The tournament staff is still working on the final payout information, which we'll share with you just as soon as we have it.

"There's No Way You Can Call There"

A player in middle position raised to 15,000 only to have Nathan Ghodoushim three-bet all in for 107,000 from the hijack. The player in the big blind, perhaps not realizing there was an original raiser, thought long and hard before folding his {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} face up.

The dealer informed him there was another player in the hand still to act, and that player opted to call off for 92,000.

"I have a feeling my hand would've won," the big blind quipped. It turned out to be a premonition.

Nathan Ghodoushim: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Opponent: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

The {3-Hearts}{7-Spades}{q-Hearts} flop, which would've given the big blind two pair, kept Ghodoushim in the lead and he stayed there through the {a-Hearts} turn and {4-Hearts} river.

For the big blind, it's a story of what might have been, but as Ghodoushim told him, "There's no way you can call there."

After 15 levels of play on Day 1c, 59 players remained with Tiffany Nguyen and her stack of 825,000 leading the way. That is ahead of both Day 1a chip leader Happy Spaulding (786,000) and Day 1b chip leader Benjamin Moon (560,000)

Others to make it through Day 1c were Robert Fortuno (548,000), Anthony Nguyen (489,000), Sarah Smart (385,000), and Ben Brown (374,000), who round out the top five stacks.

Of course, not everyone was so fortunate. Among those to fire and fall on Day 1c were popular poker vlogger Johnnie “Vibes” Moreno, CardPlayer Cruises co-owner Mark Napolitano, former Jeopardy! contestant Jeff Grimes, Marty Gorenc, one-time chip leaders Valentin Navarro and Ramon Reyes, and PLON founder Lena Evans, who will now help host tomorrow’s Ladies Event.

Day 2 will begin at 11 a.m. local time on Sunday. PokerNews will be on-hand bringing you all the updates from start to finish, so be sure to join us then.
