PokerNews is on the scene at San Diego's Sycuan Casino this weekend to report on Event #1: $360 Regional NLHE. Evet #1 is the opening tournament of an 11-day series from the MSPT, however.

Event #2: $400 PLO, played out at Sycuan Casino today, and one of San Diego's familiar faces once again found himself in a winner's photo.

Tai Reyes Purpero took down the $400 PLO event, topping a field of 50 players for a $6,700 payday. Purpero's latest wins comes just a few days after a win in the RunGood Poker Series Jamul Casino $240 Black Chip Bounty event.

Pupero is also poised for a cash finish in the $360 Regional. He finished second in chips on Day 1a, bagging 353,300.

Salimi Shuts Down Foe With River Raise

An early position player opened to 4,500, Barbod Salimi called from the hijack, and Nick Pupillo called in the big blind.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, the original raiser bet 9,000, Salimi called, and Pupillo folded.

Both remaining players checked the {7-Spades} turn. The early position player bet 22,000 on the {6-Diamonds} river, Salimi raised to 50,000, and his opponent folded.

The criteria to earn a spot on the MSPT Hall of Fame is as follows:

  • Achieve a minimum of 25 MSPT Main Event Cashes and 1 MSPT Win OR 1 MSPT Player of the Year; or
  • Achieve a minimum of 10 MSPT Main Event Final Tables and 1 MSPT Win OR 1 MSPT Player of the Year

Poulin Ousts Fortuno in a Massive Pot

The hijack limped, Chris Smith raised to 7,500 from the cutoff, Robert Fortuno called from the small blind, and Pierre Poulin squeezed to 45,000 from the big blind. Only Fortuno called.

Fortuno led out all in for his remaining 113,000 on the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop, and Poulin snap-called.
