Battle of the Rasmussen

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Reino Rasmussen
Reino Rasmussen

Reino Rasmussen stood on the rail and, with as big a smile as ever, told us what had happened.

After a player had opened and someone had called, Rasmussen found the perfect spot with {5-}{5-} in the small blind. He pushed his 5 big blinds to the middle and got called by the big blind, initial raiser and caller.

The flop came {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and some side action got underway. The big blind bet out and both players called. An off suit {10-} hit the turn and two checks later it was Rasmus Rasmussen (no relation) betting.

Just one player called. The river paired the board with a {4-} and the player that had check-called the bet on the turn, now lead out on the river. Rasmus Rasmussen shoved all in and received a call.

The bet-calling player showed {Q-Spades}{9-Spades} for a straight, while Rasmus Rasmussen turned over {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for the nut flush.

Reino Rasmussen's {5-}{5-} looked bleak and the Danish regular made his exit from the tournament in a 600,000 pot. Rasmus Rasmussen now one of the biggest stacks in the tournament.

Niko Kilpelainen
Niko Kilpelainen

From early position, Peder Mahle raised to 18,000. His neighbor Niko Kilpelainen shoved all in for about 95,000 and action folded back to Mahle. Mahle didn't hesitate and put in a giant tower of 5,000-chips to make the call.

Peder Mahle: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Niko Kilpelainen: {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

"Oh my god!" said someone at the table, in awe of the showdown.

The board was less eventful, coming {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Kilpelainen made his exit, Mahle started stacking.

Spets No Good

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 2,000 ante
Rune Thomsen
Rune Thomsen

Age Spets made it 25,000 and Rune Thomsen would be the sole caller.

Both players checked the flop of {K-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and the {A-Clubs} was seen for free by the two. Spets checked again and Thomsen bet 31,000. Spets casually called.

The {9-Diamonds} completed the board and Spets checked. Thomsen instantly checked behind and declared "King!"

Spets mucked as Thomsen showed {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}.

Van Vlasselaer Bad Beats A Myrini

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 2,000 ante

From middle position, Jonberg A Myrini made it 22,000. Action folded to Jasper Van Vlasselaer in the small blind and he raised to 70,000. The big blind folded and A Myrini instantly shoved all in. Van Vlasselaer wasn't expecting that.

After about a minute or so, Van Vlasselaert said "So fast huh? You moved in so fast?"

"Well, I have a good hand" replied A Myrini.

"Yeah, so do I. That's the problem." Van Vlasselaer answered.

Van Vlasselaer eventually did call, and he soon found out he was in trouble.

Jasper Van Vlasselaer: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Jonberg A Myrini: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} however, helping Van Vlasselaer in front. A Myrini was open ended, but failed to improve with the {6-Diamonds} turn and {Q-Hearts} river. Van Vlasselaer had his opponent covered and A Myrini made his exit.
