Welcome Back To Day 2 Of WPT Marrakech!

Welcome back to day 2 of the first ever WPT in Africa here in beautiful Marrakech. Frenchman Guillaume de la Gorce is the chip leader with 157,900 though players such as Ludovic Lacay, Annette Obrestad, Liz Lieu, Benny Spindler and Scott Montgomery are all still in contention.

With 151 players still remaining and the tournament to be finished tomorrow, today could be a very long day's worth of play. It is unlikely we'll reach the final table but the plan should be that we make the final two or three tables hopefully by the close of the day.

Play will start in about 10 to 15 minutes.

No A-More

Antoine Amourette is one of our earliest casualties today, Laurent Wisniel pushed from the button and Amourette called all-in from the small blind.

Amourette: {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}
Wisniel: {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}

Board: {10-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} - The Belgian rivering a straight to win the sizeable pot.

Liz Lieu Takes a Hit

Liz Lieu raised from the cutoff and Gerard Rodriguez Porteza went all in from the button for 18,600 more. Lieu made the call with {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and was ahead of Porteza's {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}.

However, the board ran out {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} as Porteza's flush took down the pot. He chips up to just over 40,000 while Liz Lieu is left with about 30,000.

You Spin Me Right Round...

Benny Spindler may look just like the emo emoticon on Skype, but don't let the hair draped over his face fool you, he has an excellent tournament record.

Yuri Kerzhapkin raised to 3,600 from the cutoff and Spindler repopped it to 9,000. Kerzhapkin called but then folded to a 10,000 bet on the {9-Spades} {7-Hearts} {3-Clubs} flop.

Andrew Is A Felled Man

Andrew Feldman
Andrew Feldman
Yuri Kerzhapkin raised to 3,600 and Andrew Feldman reraised to 11,600 from the small blind. Kerzhapkin moved all-in and Feldman sighed and called.

Kerzhapkin: {10-Clubs} {10-Spades}
Feldman: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}

The dealer really teased Feldman putting out a {K-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} board as he lost the 90,000 flip. Kerzhapkin is up to 185,000 and Feldman was eliminated.

G Up, G Down

"Tony G" Guoga has had a busy Day 2 thus far. He picked up pocket queens on two consecutive hands with opposite results.

The first time around, the G's opponent was all in with with ace-king versus his pair. Tony hit a set on the flop and his opponent did not recover, boosting Guoga's stack to 125,000.

The following hand, Tony opened to 3,200 under the gun and was called by one player. They checked the {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop, delivering the {6-Clubs} on the turn. Tony bet 6,000 and his opponent called, landing the {2-Spades} on the river. Not slowing down, Guoga fired one final bet of 20,000, and his opponent immediately called.

"Set?" asked Tony. Sure enough, his opponent tabled {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, having bested the pocket queens this time. Still, the gregarious Guoga is up on the day, sitting with about 95,000.

Barn-Storming Turn

Remy Biechel has been knocked out by Barny Boatman.

They were all-in on the flop of a {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {3-Clubs}, Boatman held {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} but Bischel was holding {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}.

Alas for the Frenchman, the turn was the {5-Spades} and the river the {J-Hearts} and he was out. Boatman up to 145,000.

Boatman, "I didn't want to limp into the money!"
