PokerNews is in town to live report the Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #5: $400 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max, 634 runners created a $209,220 prize pool that was paid out to the top 96 players. Among the players to cash were Ken Pittman (10th - $3,687), Jaynesh Patel (19th - $1,799), Irene Carey (20th - $1,799), Jacob Hollar (29th - $1,224), Ken Aldridge (35th - $1,040), and Melvin Lyon (50th - $721).

Coming out on top was Josh Johnson of Morrisville, North Carolina, who not only won a $40,330 top prize – the biggest score of his career – but also his second gold ring at Harrah’s Cherokee.

“It feels good. I was down to one one thousand chip in this tournament. The blinds were 300/600. It was early on, and I just kept grinding. Kept pushing, kept believing. Here it is, and I’m lookin’ for another one,” said Johnson.

He added: “I don’t read, I don’t study. I play my own game and it works. I like to win. I’m an athlete and I like to win. There’s a lot of competition in this game.”
