Roth Bags the Lead as 32 Advance From Day 1a of WSOPC Potawatomi

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Chris Roth
Chris Roth

Day 1a of the $500,000 Guaranteed WSOPC $1,700 Main Event at Potawatomi Hotel and Casino saw 204 entrants fire in hopes of securing a Day 2 bag and a shot at the coveted WSOP Circuit Main Event ring. Just 32 managed to secure a bag after a little over 15 levels of play, with Chris Roth and his 420,000 chip stack leading the way. Roth had to contend at a table with two-time WPT champ Brian Altman and his monster stack for much of the latter half of the day, but managed to overcome the challenge and bag the chip lead.

Other players able to find a bag include defending champ Richard Bai (280,000), Aaron Massey (233,000), Javier Zarco (212,000), Kou Vang (204,000), Aaron Johnson (187,000), Michael Hanson (144,000), and 12-time WSOPC ring winner Josh Reichard (83,000).

The aforementioned Altman spent a good portion of the day as the chip leader, and even minutes into the final level of the evening had a slim lead on the field. Altman's good fortune came crashing down, however, and he took a series of beats before getting his last chips in with ace-jack, only to run into the aces of Fadi Hamad to bubble a Day 2 bag.

A host of WSOP Bracelet winners also found themselves on the outside looking in by the end of day's play, as John Reading, Robert Mitchell, and Chad Holloway all succumbed before earning a trip to Day 2. Others unable to survive the day include Nick Pupillo, Mo Nuwwarah, and Phil Mader.

The final flight of the $1,700 Main Event here at Potawatomi Hotel and Casino kicks off Saturday, February 8th at 11 a.m. local time. All players that manage to navigate through the field will return on Sunday, February 9th at Noon to combine with the 32 survivors from Day 1a. The final day of play is scheduled for Monday, February 10th at Noon.

Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for all the updates as we get one step closer to crowning the latest WSOP Circuit Main Event champ!

Altman Last to Fall; Play Ends For the Night

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Brian Altman
Brian Altman

Brian Altman had his last 100,000 at risk from the cutoff, and was at risk against Fadi Hamad in the small blind.

Brian Altman: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Fadi Hamad: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Altman, who at one point this level held the chip lead, found himself crushed, and the {3-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop gave him no favors. The {10-Clubs} turn improved him to a double gutshot, but the {3-Clubs} river left Altman as the last player to be eliminated on the evening.

Stay tuned for a recap of the day's action, as well as a full listing of the day's chip counts.

Eddie Blumenthal
Eddie Blumenthal

Aaron Johnson raised to 5,000 from the small blind, then snapped off his last 46,000 when Eddie Blumenthal three-bet shoved in the big blind.

Aaron Johnson: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Eddie Blumenthal: {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

"One more!" Blumenthal said after the {7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} board failed to bring him a jack, but no more cards were coming, and instead Johnson doubled up.

Michael Leaves Michael With Fumes

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Michael Perrone
Michael Perrone

Michael Moncek, who just finished fourth in Event #9: $1,125 No-Limit Hold'em, jammed for 34,800 from middle position, and Michael Perrone called off his last 33,700 on the button.

"I looked at one!" Moncek said, to which Perrone replied, "No pair...that's good for me!"

Michael Moncek: {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Michael Perrone: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Perrone's kicker proved to be the difference maker on a {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Spades} board to leave Moncek with less than a big blind.

Kenneth Baime
Kenneth Baime

Bradley Jansen checked a {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{k-Spades} board from the cutoff, and Kenneth Baime bet 7,200 into a pot of 15,000 from the button. Jansen called.

Jansen checked again on the {7-Diamonds} river, and Baime bet 20,000, enough to set Jansen in for his last 19,800. Jansen tanked for a minute, then called, revealing {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, but his rockets were cracked by the {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} of Baime to send Jansen to the rail.

Larry Wagner
Larry Wagner

Aaron Johnson raised to 2,600 from middle position, and Larry Wagner three-bet shoved for 15,200 from the hijack. The small blind called, and Johnson folded.

Larry Wagner: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Wagner got a sweat when the {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop gave his opponent a flush draw, and the {j-Hearts} turn left Wagner looking for a queen or a non-club king to survive. The {k-Diamonds} river brought Wagner back in front with Broadway, and he doubled up.
