PokerNews is in town to report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Milwaukee’s Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

The stop kicked off with Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold’em, a tournament that attracted 313 runners and offered up a $103,290 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 47 players including Cody Brinn (4th - $7,299), Bryan Skreens (7th - $3,133), Andy Rogowski (12th - $1,586), PokerNews’ Chad Holloway (24th - $840), Ken Baime (29th - $693), and David “The Maven” Gutfreund (35th - $623).

In the end, Darin Utley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa bested Canada’s Li Ding in heads-up play to win the title for $22,642 and his second ring. His first came a year before in January 2019 when he won the WSOPC Choctaw Durant Event #3: $400 NLH Multi-Flight for $50,557.

Utley, 49, is a former amateur boxer with eight golden glove titles on his résumé.

"I started [boxing] when I was eight years old and I did it for like 20 years or so; but I just got inducted into the Iowa Boxing Hall of Fame this summer,” Utley revealed. “I think you see a lot of ex-athletes that play poker because you’re used to being competitive your whole life.”

Alexander Wins Four-Way Clash

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Hannah Guthrie raised to 600 from early position, and was called by Bradley Jansen next to act, as well as Steve Wazwaz in the cutoff. Spencer Alexander three-bet to 1,500 from the button, and Guthrie, Jansen and Wazwaz all made the call.

Action checked to Alexander on an {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop, and he bet 2,500. Guthrie and Jansen quickly folded, and Wazwaz looked over at Alexander and said, "Nice hand," before folding as well.

PokerNews is in town to report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Milwaukee’s Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #2: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha, 164 runners created a $54,120 prize pool that was paid out amongst the top 25 players, including Chris Roth (5th - $3,089), Alexander Hill (8th - $1,411), Dan Bekavac (10th - $958), Kirby Rogers (17th - $730), Gary Herstein (23rd - $628), and Nick Pupillo (24th - $628).

In the end, Kyle Klett defeated former WSOPC Potawatomi Casino Champ Byron Ziebell in heads-up play to win the title for $13,723 and his first gold ring a year after finishing runner-up in a tournament at the WSOPC Potawatomi stop.

“I didn’t want to get it all in with the short stacks, I wanted to bleed them,” said Klett, a 27-year-old broker. “I feels really good. Last year when I got second it stung a lot and the outcome of this event just feels a lot better … I just want to shoutout to my rail, Monkey and Bruger for taking a half-day to come watch me play.”

Altman Exerts Maximum Pressure

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

A substantial pot of 24,000 was already built up with a {7-Clubs}{k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board on the felt, and the hijack checked over to Brian Altman on the button. Altman jammed for 20,000, putting the hijack to the test.

The hijack tanked for a minute, taking stock of his similarly sized stack, before ultimately settling on a fold.

Simon Sends One Packing

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

A player raised to 300 from the cutoff, and Jorden Helstern called on the button. John Simon three-bet to 1,500 from the small blind, and only the cutoff called.

Simon placed 20,000 in the pot after the {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop fell, putting the cutoff in for his last 2,900. The cutoff obliged with a quick call.

Opponent: {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
John Simon: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The cutoff's lead was short-lived, as the {10-Clubs} fell on the turn, giving Simon Broadway and leaving the cutoff drawing dead to a chop. The {5-Spades} river bricked off, and the cutoff told Simon, "Good game," before making his exit.
