Event #1 - ESPN Final Table About to Begin

There have been a lot of last-minute adjustments and preparations for this, the first ESPN Final Table of the 2007 World Series of Poker. But the players have been briefed, the media is ready to go, and the players should be introduced to the crowd soon.

The new ESPN final-table arena is gorgeous, and it has attracted far more spectators than we've seen in previous years. Nearly every seat is filled, and there is an additional crowd of standing room only in the bar area that overlooks the set.

Action should be underway in about ten minutes.

Player Introductions

Seat 1 - John Younger is a musician at his first-ever WSOP final table.

Seat 2 - Jon Turner is a professional poker player from North Carolina, well known in the online world.

Seat 3 - Fred Berger has a WSOP bracelet from 2002 in pot-limit hold'em, and he's our chip leader.

Seat 4 - Roger McDow has played in past World Series events, but this is his first final table.

Seat 5 - Greg 'FBT' Mueller is a well known pro who plays most of the big events, and made his first WSOP final table in 2005.

Seat 6 - Kirk Morrison has a WSOP bracelet from 1998, and is one of the hottest players in poker right now, with a second-place finish at the recent WPT World Championship.

Seat 7 - Steve Billirakis is 21 years old and one week. He is believed to be the youngest player to ever make a WSOP final table, and he will certainly be the youngest if he wins.

Seat 8 - Steve Paul-Ambrose is young, but he already has a WPT victory under his belt, winning the 2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

Seat 9 - Tony George has been playing poker for 25 years, and this is his first WSOP final table.

Hand #1 - John Younger Eliminated in 9th Place ($33,915)

John Younger
John Younger
Hand #1 - (Limit) Jon Turner has the button in seat 2, Mueller raises to 60,000, Younger reraises to 90,000 (with 4,000 behind), Berger reraises to 120,000, Mueller folds, and Younger calls all in for 94,000 with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Berger shows {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, and he's a favorite to bust Younger right here. (Mueller claims to have folded {A-Spades}{J-Spades}.)

The flop comes {J-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}, and Berger retains the lead. The crowd gasps as Mueller would have flopped a monster with top pair and the nut flush draw.

The turn card is the {8-Spades}, and Mueller would have made his flush. Younger needs to catch a queen on the river to stay alive.

The river card is the {7-Clubs}, and John Younger is eliminated in 9th place, earning $33,915.
