Emotional Roller Coaster

Just two tables away from our Poker News workspace, an unknown player gave us a demonstration of the whirlwind of emotions that the game of poker often forces on us.

The guy was wearing a "World Series of Poker" hat backwards and a green "Player" shirt; he looked like your typical poker enthusiast, excited to be playing in a WSOP event.

Our hero was dealt pocket aces, and we all know how the blood starts pumping faster as the adrenaline rush begins when we look down at aces. He got all of his money in on a flop of {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{K-Spades}, and was up against two opponents -- one held {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, and the other happened to be tournament pro Randy Jensen, who held {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

When the cards were turned up, our man was thrilled to see that he was ahead, but when the {K-Clubs} fell on the turn, he let out a very loud, "Oh, Christ!!" as he threw his arms up in the air in shock, while gaining the attention of several nearby tables.

Suddenly, a loud "YEAAAAHHH!" burst through the room, as our hero spiked one of the two remaining aces in the deck to retake the lead and win the hand.

Whoever said poker was no fun to watch?

Tilly's Stack Grows

Jennifer Tilly just picked up a nice pot; she called a 12K flop bet from a late-position player on a {J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop.

When the {10-Clubs} came on the turn, she led out for 10K and her opponent released. Tilly now has over 60K.

Rollin' on the River

Barry Greenstein limped in from the cutoff with {J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and the player on the button moved all in for 2,500. Greenstein made the call and his opponent showed {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

The flop looked promising for Greenstein's opponent, who paired his ten: {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. The next card off the deck was the {4-Clubs}, giving Barry just three outs to win the hand.

To the dismay of his opponent, the {J-Clubs} fell on the river, giving Barry the checkmark for the hand.

Barry's chip stack stood right around 38,000 after the hand.

Jordan Morgan Doubles Up

Facing a 2,500 raise from an early-position player, Jordan reraised to 6,500. The early-position player reraised Jordan all in, and Jordan called. The cards were tabled with Jordan's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} a favorite over the EP player's {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

The board came out {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Spades} and the queens held up, increasing Jordan's stack to 46K.

Lights and Sirens

The emergency alert system here at the Rio has been activated for approximately the fifth time since the Series began.

The players must now deal with an extremely annoying strobe light which flashes nonstop about once per second.

Angelil Refuses to Show Cards

After calling an opponent's all-in on a flop of {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, Rene Angelil refused to turn his cards over, after seeing that his opponent had flopped quads.

The floor was called to the table and instructed Rene to turn them face-up; he obliged, revealing {K-Spades}{10-Spades}, but the hand had already been decided.

Afterwards, Rene was left with 11,500 chips.

Ray Davis Wants an Autograph

Barry Greenstein -- who is known for signing a copy of his book and giving it to whoever knocks him out of a tournament -- has just been moved to Raymond Davis's table.

As he sat down Raymond was heard yelling: "Whoo-ee! I'm
finally gonna get me a copy of your book!"
