When Day Two of this event started, the players were seated at some tables by the rail, but all of the surrounding tables were empty, creating a somewhat peaceful situation for the players. But now everyone from the poker tent (playing a megasatellite, I believe) have been moved into the Amazon Room because the air conditioning broke down in the heat.
The final 12 players in this event are now having to raise their voices just to hear each other over the loud crowd and the frequent announcements over the P.A. system.
Barry Greenstein raises to 27,000, Allen Cunningham calls, Lamar Wilkinson moves all in for 96,000, Greenstein moves all in over the top, and Cunningham folds. Greenstein draws one card, and Wilkinson stands pat.
After the draw, Greenstein shows he made a Q-low, while Wilkinson has for a 9-8 low. Lamar Wilkinson doubles up in chips.
After the draw, and with a little over 75,000 in the pot, Todd Brunson bets 58,000, Parris 'Butch' Holmes calls, and Chip Reese thinks for a while before he calls with for an 8-6 low. Holmes shows 10-9-4-3-2 for a 10-9 low, and Brunson mucks. Reese wins the pot.
Freddy Deeb raises from late position to 23,000, Butch Holmes calls from the cutoff, and Chip Reese asks Holmes how much he has left before he raises to 93,000. Deeb folds, Holmes folds, and Reese takes the pot.
In one of the last hands before the break, Chad Brown raises from late position to 30,000, and Barry Greenstein calls from the button. Each player draws one card.
After the draw, both players check. Greenstein shows J-low and Brown shows A-low. (Remember, in deuce-to-seven, aces are always high.) Barry Greenstein wins the pot.
The players return from their break to increased antes of 3,000, and blinds of 6,000-12,000. Players cannot limp preflop, and must enter the pot with a raise.
Chip Reese raises from middle position to 35,000, Chris Ferguson calls from the cutoff, Parris 'Butch' Holmes moves all in from the big blind for about 125,000, Reese folds, and Ferguson calls all in.
Holmes draws one card, Ferguson draws one card. They each turn over the four cards they kept, showing:
Holmes: 8-6-5-3
Ferguson: 7-6-4-2
They are each dealt one card. Holmes flips over the , giving him an 8-7 low, and Ferguson says, "I can still win with an eight." Ferguson can also catch a five or a three.
But Ferguson flips over the for a 10-7 low. Holmes wins the pot to nearly double up.
Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson is eliminated in 12th place. The top seven players will finish in the money, guaranteed at least $51,669.
