Commentators, Friends, and Competitors

In the room today are Vince Van Patten and Mike Sexton, two of poker's premiere commentators and hosts of the World Poker Tour, which is now in its sixth season.

Vince and Mike are genuinely close friends, but today they get to play in poker's greatest event and are having fun doing it.

Van Patten's stack currently sits at 22,000 while Sexton's is up to 27,000.

Marco Traniello On a Short Stack

Marco Traniello
Marco Traniello
On a board of {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, one player bet 1,500 and Marco Traniello called. Both checked the {8-Hearts} on the turn. Traniello bet 5,000 when the {6-Clubs} came on the river and his opponent called. Traniello showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. His opponent turned over {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for trips and took the pot. After the hand, Traniello was down to 5,200.

Keeping it Clean

I know it is the cold and flu season, but it has to be a little difficult to play cards in latex gloves. Oh well, better safe than sorry. Maybe the card protector will also help. It's a little statue of Moses holding the Ten Commandments.

Beth Shak Out-Kicked, But Still in the Game

Beth Shak
Beth Shak
The player on the button bet 1,700 and Beth Shak called. The flop came {7-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Both players checked the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn. The small blind checked the {Q-Clubs} on the river, Shak bet 8,000 and her opponent called. Shak had top pair with {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} but her opponent had her out-kicked with {A-Spades}{K-Spades} and took the pot. After the hand, Shak was down to 2,900.

Donkey Bomber Up to 35K

Life is good for Tom "Donkey Bomber" Schneider. He's won two bracelets at the 2007 WSOP. He has an ESPN camera crew surrounding his table and he just took down a big pot. On a board of {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} with 12K in the pot, Tom Schneider fired out 6,500 on the river and his opponent called. He flipped over {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a straight.

Tom Schneider increased his stack to 35K after winning that key pot.
