The player under the gun bet 625 and Chris Bigler called. The flop came . The UTG player bet 1,175, Bigler raised all-in and his opponent insta-called. Bigler was on a flush draw with . His opponent had two pair with . The on the turn and on the river were no help and Bigler was eliminated.
Earlier, we mentioned an orphaned stack at Scott Lazar's table, that belonged to someone named Bo D. Ho. Tournament Director Jack Effel just stopped by the table with an assistant to bag up Ho's chips and remove them from play.
What's the deal with that?
It turns out that some players pre-registered for the tournament, but never completed the registration process by showing up in person and showing your ID along with a few other things.
Bo D. Ho apparently never completed his registration, so his chips (whatever is left after 1 1/2 levels of blinds) are being removed from play.
Jennifer Tilly
On a board reading , Jennifer Tilly bet 5,000 and her opponent moved all in for 30,000. After a long think, Tilly folded, saving her last 8,500.
"Good laydown," remarked her opponent as he flashed 7-7 for a set.
"I'm like Phil Hellmuth," Tilly replied. "I can dodge bullets, except I only have one bracelet. I folded two pair. I have a goal -- that is to make it to Day 2."
There is a standard preflop raise with one caller, and the flop comes . One player pushes all in, and the other calls. One player has for an overpair, while the other has for two pair.
But the board brought the , putting an eight-high straight flush on the board to chop the pot.
Amazingly, the players tried to prove their superiority over the hand. The player with pocket queens said that the straight flush on the board was a bad beat for him, because he was the favorite. The other player said, "Favorite? I had two pair!" "I meant I was the *preflop* favorite ..."
After Mr. Peanut left Mike "The Mouth" Matusow's table area, the entire table began making jokes at Mike over the fight.
"What's the matter, Mike? Don't like the nuts?"
"He started it with me," Mike responded. "Everyone here saw it. He actually punched me when I tried to grab him."
After the tournament staff moved T.J. Cloutier to Mike's table, Mike said, "TJ! You missed it! I just tackled Mr. Peanut! I don't know how I couldn't take him down..."
After a flop of , Phil Gordon checks, Jason Alexander bets 800, the player in the cutoff raises to 2,000, and Phil Gordon nonchalantly tosses in 6,000 without saying a word.
Jason Alexander looks at Gordon and asks, "Really? Six thousand?" Alexander wants to make sure Gordon didn't accidentally bet too many chips before he folds.
The player in the cutoff thinks for a long time before he finally calls. The turn card is the , and Gordon moves all in for 9,575. His opponent calls with for top pair, top kicker. Gordon flips over and calmly says, "You're drawing dead." The meaningless river card is the , and the other player is eliminated.
Shannon Elizabeth
On a flop of Q-J-10, Shannon Elizabeth was all in with K-K. Her opponent flipped over Q-J for two pair. She still had outs with an open-ended straight draw. Unfortunately, she missed her draw and headed to the rail.
"At least I went out with Pocket Kings," the 'American Pie' star said with a smile as ESPN cameras followed her out the door.
Rene Angelil
If Celine Dion is at home following her husband's progress, we're here to report to her that Rene Angelil is holding his own so far on Day 1c. He's got 20K in chips.
