The Countdown Begins for Day 1C

Day 1C will begin in 90 minutes. There were 1,287 starters for Day 1A. There were 1,545 starters for Day 1B. Today it is estimated that there will be about 1,700 starters and Day 1D is expected to have the largest field.

The first two days have been star-studded and action packed. Stayed tuned as we bring you live coverage from the Amazon Room.

Players Are Taking Their Seats

The start time is a few minutes away, as players are now taking their seats. Due to the heavy congestion in the hallways before start time, many veteran players purposely show up an hour late to avoid the hassle. With 20,000 in chips to start, they have plenty of chips left when they finally arrive.

A Word from Jack Effel

Jeffrey Pollack introduced tournament director Jack Effel who welcomed all of the main event players. He briefly went over the rules, with emphasis on the following three...

1. You must be at your seat before the last card is dealt, otherwise you will have a dead hand.

2. You cannot be on a cellphone or text messaging when the first card is dealt. If you are, you're hand is declared dead.

3. You cannot put chips in your pockets or conceal them anyway or take them off the tournament floor, they will be taken out of play.

Saving the Best Seat in the House

2003 World Champion Chris Moneymaker is sitting at the ESPN Feature Table to start off the day. So far ESPN has seated a former World Champion at its feature table at the beginning of each Day 1--on Friday Doyle Brunson was so honored, and yesterday saw Joe Hachem starting play there.

Phil Laak Folds K-K on First Hand

Phil Laak sat down and found {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}. He raised 200 and got two callers. The flop was {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. He called over ESPN's cameras.

"Look at this!" he said as he showed his hand to the cameras as he pointed to the flop. "This doesn't match up."

He folded and said, "First hand of the WSOP and I'm already stuck 200!"
