After finishing up play around 3am last night, the 39 survivors of Day 1 have returned twelve hours later and are taking their seats at the tables. As soon as all of the chips are unbagged, we'll be underway. Expect play to commence in about five minutes.
Details are scarce but Lyric Duveyoung just doubled up through Chris Ferguson. Come showdown Ferguson had a but came up short against the of Duveyoung after Duveyoung drew just one card.
You'd think, with over $500,000 on the line, that everyone would show up on time. You'd be wrong. Both David Benyamine and Eli Elezra were late arrivals for today's restart, getting to their seats about five minutes after play started.
Phil Ivey is already working on his first massage of the day.
And Mike Matusow is singing. When David Benyamine took his seat at Matusow's table, Matusow broke into a sing-song of: "David Benyamine, over here! When you give your chips away, please give them to me."
Phil Ivey raised to 5,000 from early position and got looked up by Jim Bechtel, Carlos Mortensen and Tom Dwan. Mortensen drew one card as did Bechtel. Ivey and Dwan opted for two cards. Action checked to Bechtel and he bet 17,000. No one could call and Bechtel took the pot without a showdown, climbing to over 100,000 chips.
Ten minutes into the day, Nikolay Evdakov doubled up. He stood pat with a made 8-7 against David Peat, who drew one and did not connect. After the hand, Evdakov's stack increased to 130,000, and Peat fell into Death Watch territory, with 29,000.
Philippe Rouas put in a raise to 5,000. Action folded around to Mike Matusow and he reraised to 26,000. Rouas moved all in for 43,000 and Matusow made the call. Matusow had Rouas well covered so it would be Rouas' tournament life on the line. Both players stood pat. Rous showed but that couldn't best the of Mike Matusow. Rouas is the first play to hit the rail while Matusow surges to over 240,000 chips.
Carlos Mortensen raised to 7,000 from under the gun. Action folded around to Jim Bechtel on the button and he called. Brandon Adams slowly peeked at his cards and then pushed out 30,000 chips. Mortensen and Bechtel both quickly passed and Adams picked up the pot.
