Minh Wasn't Ly-ing

Hold'em -

Ross Boatman comes in raising the pot from late position. Minh Ly makes the smooth call from the button, and the two men go to the flop heads up. The first three community cards are {K-Hearts} {9-Spades} {J-Clubs}.

Boatman bets out the full pot, and Ly comes back with a covering reraise, which Boatman calls all in. He flips over {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}, but realizes Ly flopped lucky with his {K-Spades} {J-Spades}, giving him top two pair.

The turn and river fail to bring Boatman back to the lead, and he is eliminated early in today's play.

Hachem Loses Almost Half his Stack

Omaha -

The board was {J-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {2-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} and on the river, Joe Hachem bet 9,000 after Kyle Hegeman checked over to him. The pot sat around 12,000 before Hachem made the bet. Hegeman made the call and tabled {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}-x-x for a set of fives. Hachem showed {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}.

After losing the hand, Hachem is back down to 34,000. Hegeman is up to 59,000.

Ly Chops Down Forrest

Omaha -

According to Minh Ly, he turned a set of tens in the hand, but the ten on the turn happened to give Ted Forrest a wrap and a flush draw. The two players got all in, with Forrest's tournament life on the line.

The river blanked out for Forrest and he was eliminated.

Chip Leader All But Out

Hold'em -

Stephen McKinney opens from the hijack seat, making it 3,000 to go. "The Professor" Howard Lederer makes the call from the button, and the two men go heads up to the flop.

It comes down {7-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts}. McKinney bets 5,000, and Lederer flat-calls.

The turn is the {Q-Diamonds}, and both men check.

The river card brings the {3-Clubs}. McKinney checks and then calls an 8,500-chip bet from Lederer.

The pro shows down his hand, having flopped the stone cold nuts: {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. McKinney open mucks {A-Spades} {5-Spades}, and ships the vast majority of his chips over to The Professor.

After that encounter, Lederer is up to 65,000, and our one-time chip leader Stephen McKinney is crippled down to just 5,000.

McKinney Out of Chips

Hold'em -

It took just 90 minutes of play for our overnight chip leader to fall all the way down and out of our field.

From middle position, and now working with a short stack, Stephen McKinney opened by moving all in for his last 4,200. Hilbert Shirey made the call from late position, and action folded to Sorel Mizzi in the small blind. He re-popped it, making it 12,000 to go, which was enough to isolate him against the all-in player.

McKinney turned over {6-Spades} {7-Spades}, and Mizzi showed down {K-Spades} {4-Spades}.

The board came down {2-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {8-Spades} {A-Diamonds}, giving Mizzi the win and sending McKinney to the exit surprisingly early. After that pot, Mizzi has moved up to 34,300.

New Chip Leader

David Penly
David Penly
Omaha -

The board read {7-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {8-Clubs} in a big pot between Shawn Buchanan and David Penly. Buchanan had been betting the entire way. After the river landed, the pot stood around 40,000 and Buchanan made a big bet of 30,000. Penly tanked and finally made the call.

He showed {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}-x-x for top set--a brilliant call, with all the straight draws possible--besting Buchanan's {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}.

Penly is now our chip leader with over 140,000.

Morgan Eliminates Rapp

Omaha -

Five players limp into the pot, but Jordan Morgan is lurking in the big blind, and he bumps it up to 5,600. The first limper, John-Paul Kelly, calls, as does Stefan Rapp, who is all in for his last 4,400.

The three men watch the flop bring {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {4-Spades}. Morgan bets out, and his lone live opponent folds. With a player all in, Morgan turns over his hand: {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}. Rapp holds his cards up to his eyes, but does not table them.

The turn brings the {10-Hearts}, giving Morgan a full boat, and the river {8-Hearts} apparently does nothing to save Rapp, as he mucks his hand and heads for the door.

A Happier Table without Krause

Omaha -

According to some of the players at his table, Andreas Krause had been irritating his table throughout the tournament so far with his antics.

In late position, Krause raised to 3,000. Lennart Holtkamp then made it 10,000 to go from the small blind. Krause moved all in for 14,000 total and Holtkamp made the call.

Krause: {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs}
Holtkamp: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}

The flop brought the case king, {K-Spades} {J-Spades} {5-Diamonds}, to put Holtkamp in the lead. The turn and river came the {5-Hearts} and the {4-Diamonds}. Krause was eliminated and didn't seem too happy about it.

Holtkamp commented, "Normally, I'd feel a bit sorry, but I'm happy to see him go." The rest of the table acknowledged agreement.

No Love From This Hart

Omaha -

Daniel Hart raised from the cutoff. Action folded to Sam Oliverio in the big blind. Oliverio checked his cards and then moved all in. Hart called.

Oliverio: {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {2-Hearts}
Hart: {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} {10-Spades}

The flop came {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {3-Hearts}. The turn was the {10-Clubs}, giving Hart a straight. The river officially ended Oliverio's tournament when the {2-Clubs} hit. Hart is now up to 29,000.
