Bubble Boy?

Larry Satterwhite moved all in from under the gun for his last small stack of 1,900 little chips. He got called in four places, by Allen Kessler, Hilbert Shirey, David Penly, and Shawn Buchanan. The board ran out {2-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}.

Satterwhite needed to beat four opponents, and somehow he managed to. He flipped over {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {9-Spades}, and with his flopped full house, he quintuples up and stays alive on the bubble.

Show Them the Money

After more than a half hour of searching, we've found our last out-of-the-money finisher. John-Paul Kelly raised from the button, making it 4,200 to go. Brian Schwartz was sitting in the big blind with just 2,900 left. He stood up and nodded knowingly at the blank table in front of him. After a moment, he let out, "Gamble," and tossed his chips into the pot.

Kelly: {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}
Schwartz: {Q-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}

The board ran out {10-Spades} {2-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {A-Hearts}, giving Kelly the nut flush, and sending Schwartz home without a paycheck.

After bursting the bubble, nine minutes have been added to the play clock, and we have resumed normal dealing.

The Proverbial Two Birds

David Penly
David Penly
Hold'em -

Kory Mitchell opens the pot with a raise from the cutoff, making it 4,000 to play. Big stack David Penly makes the call on the button. Shawn Buchanan is in the small blind with 11,000 in chips left, and he moves all in. Larry Satterwhite is next, and he lets out a big sigh before moving his final 7,000 in as well. The original raiser, Mitchell, ducks out but Penly comes along with the call. The hands are tabled:

Penly: {5-Clubs} {5-Spades}
Buchanan: {10-Spades} {10-Hearts}
Satterwhite: {Q-Spades} {2-Spades}

The flop looks good for Penly when it comes down {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}, giving him a full boat.

If the flop was good, the turn is even better. It brings the {5-Hearts}, the case five making him quads and leaving his two opponents drawing dead and out of chips.

After knocking the two opponents out, Penly has upped his chip lead, and now sits pretty with 226,000!

Patrick Good

Hold'em -

Patrick Bueno got all his chips in the pot against Henning Granstad, holding {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}. Granstad held {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}.

The board ran out {Q-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {9-Spades}. Despite having quite a few outs on the river, Granstad could not crack Bueno's aces, and he moves down to 99,000. Bueno, meanwhile survives and doubles up to 49,000.

Davis Aces No Good

We pick up the action on the flop, with Minh Ly and Mark Davis involved in a heads-up raised pot. The flop shows {K-Spades} {10-Spades} {5-Hearts}. Davis lets Ly bet, only to check-raise him all in. Ly makes the call, and the hands are turned over. Davis holds {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} and sees the bad news as Ly tables {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}, having flopped a set. The turn and river, {8-Diamonds}, {2-Hearts} fail to improve Davis, and he ends up shipping a big stack of chips over to Minh Ly.

After the hand, Ly stands at 123,000, while Davis is down to just 32,000.

Penly Takes Out the Chainsaw

Hold'em -

Allen Kessler has just been eliminated from the tournament. He held {10-Spades} {10-Clubs}, and was all in and at risk against the {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} of David Penly.

The flop was almost as bad as it gets for Kessler. It came {K-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}, giving Penly a pair of kings and a flush draw to boot. The turn and river failed to improve Kessler; they came down {6-Hearts} and {9-Hearts} respectively, sending the "Chainsaw" over to the cashout clerk a little earlier than he would have hoped.

Two D'aram Hands

Omaha -

From the cutoff seat, Thibaud D'aram opens the action with a raise to 4,000. Action is passed to Kenneth Fitzgerald, and he re-raises from the small blind, making it 11,500 to play. D'aram moves all in over the top, and Fitzgerald makes the call. The hands are turned up:

Fitzgerald: {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}
D'aram: {K-Clubs} {K-Spades} {3-Spades} {9-Diamonds}

The board misses D'aram, as it runs out {2-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {7-Spades} {J-Hearts}. He thinks he is eliminated, and starts to walk away. When the stacks are counted down though, he is called back and given his last 1,500 chips to continue playing with.

On the very next hand, Max Pescatori and Zachary Hyman get all their chips in along with D'aram. When the dust settled, Pescatori's hand, {Q-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {2-Spades}, made a straight, and eliminated both of his opponents from the field.
