Deep Stacks

With blinds of 2,000/4,000, an opening preflop raise can range from 8,000 to 14,000.

The average chip stack among the 27 remaining players is above 225,000. The short stacks should be feeling some urgency, but most of the field have plenty of chips with which to play.

Erik Seidel Eliminated

Seidel {Q-Clubs} {9-Spades} {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts}

Hourani {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {4-Spades}

Gerasimov Knocks Out Perry

On a flop of {8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, Ralph Perry bet 25,000 from the small blind, Kirill Gerasimov raised pot, and Perry called with the rest of his chips.

Perry showed {7-Spades}{Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for two pair, a gutshot straight draw, and a flush draw. Gerasimov showed {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for top pair, a straight draw, and a better flush draw.

The turn was the {2-Clubs}, and Perry was still ahead. But the {2-Hearts} on the river gave Gerasimov the hand, and Perry was out in 26th.

Williams Douses Hellmuth's Fire

David Williams

On a flop of {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, Jani Vilmunen bet 12,000, David Williams called, and Phil Hellmuth also called. The turn was the {8-Spades}. Vilmunen checked, Williams bet 50,000, Hellmuth called, and Vilmunen folded.

The river was the {8-Clubs}. Williams bet 100,000, and Hellmuth went into the tank. After a couple of minutes of stewing, Hellmuth finally folded.

A Hellmuthian tirade followed, during which he saw fit to call Williams an "idiot." Williams reacted defensively, recounting to Hellmuth some of his previous play and discouraging him from making such accusations henceforth.

Ferguson {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {2-Clubs}

Feguson held the overpair, a straight draw and the nut flush draw, but Galfond had flopped top two pair and a wrap. The turn was the {8-Hearts}, making Galfond's straight and Ferguson could not improve on the {5-Clubs} river. Galfond dragged the pot, increasing his stack to 415,000
