More PLO Rebuy Madness at the Rio

It'll be a frenzy at high noon at the Rio on Wednesday, when Event 34, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha w/ Rebuys begins action. And we do mean action -- as many big-name players will be shoving blind on the first few hands in an attempt to accumulate chips. Last year's event drew 293 players, who collectively chipped in an additional 880 rebuys, all within the first levels of play. Alan Smurfit emerged from the cries of "Rebuy!" a year ago to capture the bracelet and a nice payday of $464,867.

Action Awaits

We're just a few minutes away from the start of today's $1,500 pot-limit Omaha with rebuys event. The rebuy period lasts for the first three levels (each level lasts one hour), so we're expecting a lot of action here at the start.

Shuffle Up and Deal

The announcement has been made, although several players have yet to make their seats. Some tables have only two seated, but the cards are in the air nonetheless.

Up at the Crack of Noon

At the moment, 219 have registered for the event. With over thirty tables set up, it appears they are starting out seating for seven-handed play. More should be showing up, though.

The Call of the Wild

Erick Lindgren just took his seat between Matt Graham and Eugene Todd (bro) at Table No. 20.

"Rebuy, rebuy, rebuy!" said Lindgren as he sat down.

Jimmy Fricke, Bill Gazes, Eric Froehlich, and Jeff Kimber are also here.

"I'll Gamble"

On a flop of {3-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}, Thomas Wahlroos checked from the big blind, Lee Watkinson bet 650, and Wahlroos called. Both checked the {Q-Spades} on the turn and the {8-Spades} on the river. Wahlroos showed {5-Spades}{2-Spades}-x-x for the small flush and Watkinson mucked

"I'll gamble, I'll play," said Wahlroos.

Devilfish Caught

Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott led out for 1,200 on a flop of {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, and a late-position player repopped it all in to 3,600. Ulliott called. The LP player showed 8-8-x-x for a set of eights, while Ulliott had {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades} for a straight draw. The turn brought an ace, sealing the hand for Ulliott's opponent.

Ulliott dropped down to 1,400 there, but will surely be rebuying.

Some More Names

Over on the far side, we're seeing Jan von Halle, Alex Kravchenko, Paul Magriel, Nenad Medic, Andy Black, Jordan Morgan, Humberto Brenes, Jeff Madsen, Mike Gracz, Sirous Jamshidi, and Katja Thater.

At the tables along the wall are Terrence Chan, Ted Lawson, Scott Clements, Jamie Gold, Jerrod Ankenman, David Grey, and Jared Hamby.
