Rentes Allergic to Chips

No-Limit Hold'em:

We pick up the action on the river in another big pot involving Chris Rentes. This time he is tangled up with Jonathan Tamayo. The board reads {9-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. On the river, Rentes puts in a bet of 12,000. Tamayo raises to 65,000, and Rentes goes into the tank.

He asks, "Why so big?" but his opponent remains silent. Finally, Rentes does make the call.

Tamayo slams down {5-?} {6-?}, pounds the rail and yells "Ship it!" Rentes stares at the nuts and ships a good chunk of his stack across the table.

Klein Bach Eliminated in 14th Place and Hien Tran Eliminated in 15th Place ($9,978)

Hien Tran - 14th Place

No-Limit Hold'em:

After being crippled the previous hand, Klein Bach moved all in for his last 2,000 under the gun. Frank Gary called from the cutoff, Todd Witteles called from the small blind, and Hien Tran called from the big blind.

The flop came {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} and action checked around. The turn came the {5-Clubs} and Witteles and Tran checked to Gary, who bet 8,000. Witteles folded and Tran made the call.

The river came the {10-Hearts} and Tran moved all in for 16,000. Gary made the call and showed {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. Bach turned up a losing pocket-pair of sevens and Tran turned over {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}.

Both Tran and Bach were eliminated on this hand.

Big Battle

No-Limit Hold'em:

This hand occurred just moments before the players broke, and it has been the talk of the railbirds for several minutes now.

Jonathan Tamayo drew a seat change before the break to keep the tables balanced. He moved over to the table of Nick Binger, putting the two big stacks within striking distance of each other.

It took no time at all for them to settle in and tangle with each other. On the very first hand at his new table, Tamayo saw Binger open for a raise in middle position. When it folded back around to Tamayo in the small blind, he reraised to 30,000. Binger put out a third raise, making it approximately 40,000 more to call. Tamayo readied himself and shoved his whole stack in, more than 300,000 against the only player who can bust him. Binger seemed flustered, and he mucked his cards, shipping a huge chunk of his stack over to Tamayo without even seeing a flop. After the little battle, Tamayo has taken over the chip lead at 370,000 and knocked Binger down to 265,000.

Action!

With the play slowed right to a crawl, there is still one exciting thing happening in this room. The four-member tournament staff is throwing seat change cards, a la Chris Ferguson, trying to hit one of the giant inflatable Milwaukee's Best Light cans along the wall from more than 50 feet away.

There really is nothing happening.

Motionless

Sitting behind the computer and staring out into the Brasilia Room here at the Rio, there is a lack of movement. Players are stagnant, tournament directors and cocktail servers are sitting down, and some of the spectators are dozing off on the rail as they sit in chairs. Players have even stopped shuffling their chips as much as normal, which is an extreme sign that the action is slow.

One thing that hasn't stopped moving in the clock. It keeps ticking down and the levels going up. Before long, we may be in a shovefest.

Sam Hiatt Eliminated in 12th Place ($12,473)

Sam Hiatt - 12th Place
No-Limit Hold'em:

Chris Rentes was at it again. This time he raised from the cutoff to 16,000. Sam Hiatt reraised from the button to 48,500 and was all in. Rentes made the call with {A-Hearts} {7-Clubs}. Hiatt showed {J-Clubs} {J-Spades}.

The flop was not what Hiatt wanted to see, not one, but two aces... {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. The turn came the {8-Spades} and the river the {6-Hearts}. One of the two remaining jacks didn't fall and Hiatt was shipped out in 12th place.
