The Cream of the Crop

As you may know, David Singer made the final table of the first two WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournaments. Singer finished 6th in both the 2006 and 2007 events. Singer receives considerable accolades for this accomplishment, as he certainly should.

As the 2008 final table gets underway however, another notable story is emerging.

Barry Greenstein has cashed in each of the three tournaments that have been held (including the one in progress) and has made the final table in two of them. The Bear finished 12th in 2006 and 7th in 2007.

Should Barry take home the title here today, it would have exciting implications beyond the obvious. Greenstein will catapult himself to the top of the WSOP Player of the Year race and will have had arguably one of the best showings in WSOP history.

Hand 2- Michael DeMichele

Omaha-8:

Huck Seed had the button in Seat 2. Michael DeMichele raised to 100,000 from middle position and Erick Lindgren called. Matt Glantz called as well from the cutoff, and they saw a {4-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {J-Hearts} flop. Michael bet 50,000, Lindgren raised to 100,000 and Glantz folded. DeMichele called, and the {J-Spades} fell on the turn. DeMichele checked, Lindgren bet, and Michael check-raised to 200,000. Erick called, and the {5-Diamonds} hit on the river. Michael bet 100,000 and Lindgren took some time before laying down his hand.

Hand #3 - Lyle Berman

Omaha-8:

Patrick Bueno had the button in Seat 3. He raised and Lyle Berman called from the small blind. The flop was {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}. Berman checked, Bueno bet and Berman called. The turn was the {5-Hearts} and both players checked. The river was the {Q-Hearts}. Berman bet, Bueno raised, Berman made it three bets and Bueno called.

Berman turned over nines full of fives and Bueno mucked. Berman scooped the pot.

Hand 4- Lyle Berman and Patrick Bueno Split the Pot.

Omaha-8:

Lyle Berman had the button in Seat 4. The action was folded around to Patrick Bueno, who raised from the cutoff. Berman three-bet to 150,000 and Bueno raised for the last of his chips, which Berman called.

Bueno held {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} to Berman's {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {2-Spades} {8-Clubs}. The flop came {8-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {4-Clubs}, giving Berman the nut low. The {J-Clubs} came on the turn and the {10-Clubs} on the river, so Bueno's aces held up and they chopped the pot.

Hand #5 - Barry Greenstein

Omaha-8:

Scotty Nguyen had the button in Seat 5. Huck Seed called, Barry Greenstein completed the small blind and Michael DeMichele checked his option. The flop was {9-Spades} {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts} and all three players checked. The turn was the {Q-Spades}. Greenstein bet, DeMichele folded and Seed gave it up. Greenstein won the pot.

Who Can Wait For TV?

With such an all-star lineup at what many pros consider the real "main event," it should come as no surprise that there's not an empty seat in the house. The spectators were here early and are squeezed in tight, each trying to catch a glimpse of the best in the world. Each player has their own entourages in the gallery, whose loyalties become more and more obvious as play goes on. Amongst the "courtesy claps" at the end of each hand, pockets of genuine excitement will erupt from various areas when a certain player takes down a pot.

Hand 6- Huck Seed and Erick Lindgren Split the Pot

Omaha-8:

Barry Greenstein had the button in Seat 6. Huck Seed raised to 100,000 and Erick Lindgren called from the big blind. The flop came the {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {7-Clubs} and Lindgren checked. Seed bet, Lindgren check-raised and Seed called. The {4-Diamonds} turned, Lindgren bet and Seed called. The {K-Clubs} fell on the river, Lindgren bet and Seed called.

Erick showed a 7-high straight and a 2-3 low, but Huck had an A-2 low and they chopped the pot.
