Theo Tran Knocks Out Carlos Mortensen

Theo Tran on Day 1
Theo Tran on Day 1
Carlos Mortensen pushed his entire stack into the middle from the button and got called by Theo Tran in the small blind.

Mortensen: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Tran: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

Tran took the lead on a flop of {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and neither the {2-Clubs} on the turn nor the {6-Clubs} on the river improved Mortensen's hand.

Tran now has 51,600.

Early Blow For Kagawa

Masa Kagawa has taken an early hit after doubling up Tony Utnage Jr.

Kagawa opened with a raise from the button to 3,500 before Utnage shoved over the top for an additional 18,700. Victor Ramdin deliberated in the big blind before making a reluctant fold (which he later claimed was {A-?}{J-?}), and Kagawa went into the tank.

With plenty of gambling chips in front of him, Kagawa made the call with {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs} but found himself dominated by the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} of Utnage.

The board delivered no surprises as it landed {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Utnage doubles as Kagawa slips back to about 85,000 chips.

Jimmy Fricke Takes a Big Hit

Jimmy Fricke raised to 3,500 from middle position and was re-raised to 9,000 by Jason DeWitt. Fricke pushed all in and DeWitt made the call.

Fricke {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
DeWitt {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}

The flop of {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} gave Fricke the nut flush draw, but he couldn't get there when the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

Fricke lost 37,500 on the hand and DeWitt now has 75,000.

Hinkle Crippled and Eliminated

Danny Illingworth recalled to us a hand which led to Blair Hinkle being crippled and ultimately eliminated.

A player opened from the cutoff and Illingworth popped it up from the small blind with {A-?}{K-?}. Hinkle then shoved over the top of both with pocket threes, with Illingworth making the call. The board ran out {A-?}{9-?}{7-?}{9-?}{6-?} and Illingworth caught the ace to leave Hinkle crippled. He was eliminated soon after.

Chau Giang Takes a Pot

Chau Giang raised to 2,800 on the cut off and got called by Ben Tollerene in the small blind.

Tollerene check-called Giang's 3,500 bet on a flop of {10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and his 10,000 bet on the turn of {J-Spades}. Tollerene check folded when Giang bet another 22,000 at the {Q-Clubs} on the river.

Giang now has 57,000

Jimmy Fricke Goes Bust

Just a few hands after losing a big pot, Jimmy Fricke gave up the rest of his chips to Danny Illingworth.

Fricke raised to 3,500 from the cutoff and was called by the button before Illingworth re-raised to 13,000 from the small blind. Fricke shoved, the button folded and we went heads up to the flop.

Fricke: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Illingworth: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

When the board ran {5-Spades}{4-Spades}{K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}, Fricke went to the rail. Illingworth now has 205,000.
