Double Deeb

Freddy Deeb rocked up to the tournament late but he's already doubled his starting stack (without having yet redeemed a rebuy chip). After the draw, Yan Chen bet 1,000, then called all in for 5,000 total after Deeb moved in. Deeb rolled over 8-7-6-4-3 to take down a pot worth 17,000 chips.

Late Arrivals

"David Williams shows up at the World Series of Poker!" announced Mike Matusow to anyone who would listen.

Indeed, Williams is now occupying the seat on David Benyamine's left, where Gus Hansen was sitting not too long ago, chatting to the table, but not playing.

Still MIA and expected to play? Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, and Tom "durrrr" Dwan.

Lowball's Baxter's Game, but Chino Getting the Best of It

"You rebuy yet Chino?" Billy Baxter asked. Chino Rheem replied no.

"And look at all them chips you got. Oh that's right. You beat me for some of them."

The next hand, Rheem opened for 450 from under the gun. Baxter made it 1,500 from the small blind.

"Here, I'll give some of them back," said Rheem as he tossed in a call.

"Yeah right," replied Baxter. He rapped pat. Rheem drew one card, then bet 3,200 after Baxter checked.

Baxter mulled over his option for about thirty seconds. "Well, at least I'll sleep well tonight," he remarked as he threw in a call. Rheem showed down 8-6-5-4-2.

"I knew that was a bad call," said Tim Phan. It didn't seem that Baxter (or anyone else) paid him much attention.

Number Two Works for Alioto

Dario Alioto
Dario Alioto
We missed the betting action at Table 247, but we saw the look of pain on Sami Kelopuro's face. Having already redeemed his rebuy chips, Kelopuro put Dario Alioto (two rebuy chips still behind) all in. Alioto snap-called with Number Two, 7-6-4-3-2. Kelopuro grimaced as he flashed 7-6-5-4-2.

As Change100 remarked, that's bad enough in triple draw. In single draw it's just brutal.

Kelopuro's stack took a punishing to 13,000 chips (no rebuys left). Alioto is on 16,000 chips (two rebuys left).

Quick! Let's Play Some Hands!

Both Barry Greenstein and Daniel Negreanu have dashed over to the Brasilia Room on their dinner break from the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. to get in a few hands.

Also arriving within the last few minutes were Max Pescatori, Roland De Wolfe and Steve Zolotow.

Not Playing Today

Ther are some notable absences from today's event. Chau Giang just wandered through the tournament area to chat with a few of his friends. He's not playing though; he's still alive in Day 2 of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event (which recently went on dinner break).

Chris Ferguson is also not playing.

Stung by Sung

Tom Schneider opened for 525 from the cutoff, the button called, Anton Allemann made it 2,000 to go from the small blind, Steve Sung flat-called the reraise from the big blind, and both Schneider and the button let their hands go.

Allemann and Sung drew one card apiece. Allemann checked,Sung bet 5,000 and Allemann called.

Sung turned up 8-6-5-4-2 and Allemann mucked. Sung's stack is now up to 18,300 (plus two add-on chips) while Allemann is down to 1,950 (plus two add-on chips, which he's probably thinking about using right now).

You're an Idiot, Baby?

Huck Seed's still running bad. He tangled with Scotty Nguyen in a recent hand and did not manage to take down the pot. Mike Matusow jumped up from his chair to watch the hand and then had a few words for the Prince of Poker.

"You're an idiot," Matusow told Nguyen. "You played like sh*t and you sucked out on my friend Huck." It was an interesting set of remarks coming from a guy wearing a "No Blow-Ups" t-shirt.

To Rebuy or Not to Rebuy

David Benyamine
David Benyamine
Players at Jeff Lisandro's table are discussing the merits of playing rebuy events at the WSOP (all rebuy events were made freezeouts this year). Lisandro and David Benyamine are in favor of rebuy events. "If some rich guy wants to buy in ten times in the PLO, let him," remarked Lisandro.

Benyamine pointed out that some people get really ridiculous with their rebuys. "How many times did Daniel rebuy -- 52?" he asked.

For what it's worth, the answer is 48 - a record Negreanu set in the 2006 WSOP that will never be broken unless rebuy events return in the future. Negreanu himself agrees with the change made this year.

"When you are giving away a World Series of Poker bracelet I think everyone should have an equal chance to win it, not just a chance based on how fat their wallets are," Negreanu was quoted as saying back in February of this year.
