More for Lichter

Robert Lichter has more than doubled up, his pocket kings holding up against one opponent's pocket queens and a much less good hand belonging to a super-short stack. He's up to 20,000 and stays in the game.

Level: 7

Blinds: 200/400

Ante: 50

Ketteringham Hits the Mark

Mark Ketteringham is up to 32,000 after calling an opponent's all in holding pocket fives; the opponent turned over {A-?} {10-?}. Ketteringham's hand only improved on the {9-?} {Q-?} {K-?} {K-?} {5-?} board, while his hapless opponent is busto.

Going Up, and Going Down

Chattha - not very happy at all
Chattha - not very happy at all
Big stacks get bigger -- Minh Luu is up to an extremely healthy 40,000.

Meanwhile former big stack fallen on hard times Sunny Chattha is having a miserable time of it -- he's down to 5,000 now and looks extremely depressed.

Horner Not Really Stealing the Blinds All That Much

Brent Horner looks like he has a very large stack, but it is in fact around the 25,000 mark -- not small exactly (the average is currently around 15,000), but not nearly as big as it looks owing to all the small denomination chips he's accrued. "I like to give the impression that I'm stealing the blinds all the time," he said.

I strolled past his table just in time to see him bet out 1,600 on a {Q-Spades} {A-Clubs} {6-Clubs} flop and then insta-fold with a grin when his opponent announced all in.

Hellmuth Busts Gazes

Gazes - off he goes
Gazes - off he goes
Bill Gazes is busto.

He open-shoved for his last 2,750 from the cutoff, but Phil Hellmuth found {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} on the button and called. No hope for Mr Gazes on the {7-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} board, and out went he and his hat with a gentlemanly handshake.

Hellmuth is up to a slightly below average 11,200.

Mizrachi Up There

Robert Mizrachi called a late position raise in the small blind and saw a {6-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {3-Clubs} flop. He check-called a 2,500 bet, and proceeded to the turn.

Turn: {8-Clubs}

Again Mizrachi checked and this time when his opponent bet 5,000, he raised to 10,000. His opponent moved in for 17,750 and Mizrachi called, as you do when you've turned a full house.

Mizrachi: {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds}
Mr Opponent: {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

River: a meaningless {9-Clubs}

Mizrachi up to 51,000.

Good Heavens

Poker players come from all backgrounds and all walks of life, but I have to say that man of the cloth is one of the more unlikely professions for a gentleman seated at a WSOP table.

Nevertheless, spying a gentleman at the tables wearing the traditional dog collar, I couldn't help but be curious. Prop bet seemed more likely somehow, but Mr. Michael Wernette, of Chicago, assures us that he is indeed a bona fide priest, trying his luck right here in the Amazon Room. He's currently on around 9,500 in chips -- below average, but he's not in need of any divine intervention just yet. Marvellous.
