Stemper Finds Aces

Stemper in the $2k - he's conveniently wearing the exact same outfit today
Stemper in the $2k - he's conveniently wearing the exact same outfit today
Patrick Stemper, who cashed in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em last week after spending much of Day 1 as chip leader, has doubled up to a little over 40,000 after his pocket aces avoided any catastrophes against his opponent's pocket tens.

Yeh But, No But

Anthony Yeh has suffered a massive disaster and busted out!

No, just kidding, he's taken a couple small hits but they've barely dented his enormous stack.

First off a gent pushed for just 1,775 in early position and Yeh called from the big blind without even looking at his cards. The short stack was dominating with {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} against Yeh's {2-Hearts} {8-Hearts} and failed to hit, and the short stack doubled.

A little later Yeh raised to 1,050 under the gun and the cutoff called, only for the small blind to push for 4,225. Yeh went over the top for 21,150, the cutoff folded and they were on their backs.

Yeh: {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs}
Small blind: {A-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}

Board: a most fortunate-for-the-short-stack {9-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds}

Nevertheless, Yeh is still on 69,000 and we have yet to find a stack bigger than his.

Fricke Likes the Flop

Jimmy Fricke on the cutoff and Tom McEvoy on the button both called a 1,700 raise and saw a {J-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} flop. It checked to Fricke who bet 4,000, and both players passed, leaving him to pick up the pot. Fricke's up to 24,000. McEvoy, by the by, has 7,200.

Hellmuth Likes Ladies

Hey ladies...
Hey ladies...
A gent shoved in early position for just 2,800 and Phil Hellmuth woke up with pocket queens. His opponent had a rather lacklustre {J-Spades} {6-Spades}, failed to improve, and his chips are now the property of Mr. Hellmuth. He's now on around 10,800.

It's a No for Yeh

Wow, no sooner than I'd joked about it than Anthony Yeh actually did take an enormous hit in a completely crazy hand that left him down to 47,000.

With the gent on the button all in preflop, Yeh checked the {K-Clubs} {9-Spades} {3-Hearts} flop and called a 9,000 bet from the other gentleman in the hand. They proceeded to the {5-Hearts} turn and Yeh checked again, but undeterred, his opponent bet 10,000. Yeh reluctantly laid down his hand and the all-in player and the aggressive bettor flipped their hands over.

Mr. All In Preflop: {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts}
Mr. Aggressive: a very esoteric {6-Clubs} {6-Spades}

River: {7-Hearts}

The short stack doubled, Mr. Aggressive won the very chunky side pot, and Yeh is fuming.

Maridu Does Something Gross

Maridu Mayrinck is up to 20,000.

"I just tripled up in the most grotesque way." Oh yes? "No, I can't tell you, it's too gross."

It wasn't actually all that disgusting, a mere desperate shove from the small blind to a early position raise. Maridu's {Q-?} {J-?} offsuit was, admittedly, in pretty terrible shape against her opponent's {K-?} {Q-?} (I believe it may have actually been {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} and two hearts on the flop, but it also may not have been), but a friendly jack on the turn kept her in the game.

"It was horrible, I'm not proud of it," she announced. Then to the gent who'd had the {K-?} {Q-?}: "Sorry."

Eric No Liu-ser

Liu - stacking up
Liu - stacking up
Eric Liu is up to a shade under 60,000. He was doing pretty well anyway, but his last little chunk came courtesy of a gent who moved in with pocket deuces preflop. Liu found pocket nines, called, and the bricky board couldn't save the short stack.
