Get Your Gamble On

Jesper Hougaard
Jesper Hougaard
It's Day 2 for the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament, and that means it's time to gamble. PLO, a sick game that could only have been devised by a bunch of action junkies looking for more creative ways to light money on fire, plays the biggest out of all of the poker games -- bigger even than no-limit hold'em.

That action fix may be why 363 players put up $5,000 yesterday to play this tournmanet. 64 return today, with Jesper Hougaard leading the field. We need to cut the field in half to get to the money, and for once are aiming to have the final table set ahead of the Rule 96 3 a.m. cutoff.

Play will be underway in about five to ten minutes. We'll have all the action.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Cards are in the air. Jack Effel reminded players about the "English Only" rule, stating that yesterday there were several problems with players speaking languages other than English at the table during a hand. He emphasized that players who violate the rule could be subject to a penalty, up to and including disqualification.

Late Arrivals

You'd think, if you made Day 2 of a major tournament at the World Series of Poker, you would show up on time. Apparently not everyone thinks the same. There are four seats that were empty to start the day. They belong to Isaac Baron, Andrew Chen, Richard En and a player listed on our starter list as "No Name Given". Chen showed up ten minutes late, but the other seats are still empty.

Justin Smith Takes Pot vs. Five Opponents

Justin "BoostedJ" Smith
Justin "BoostedJ" Smith
Justin "BoostedJ" Smith raised to 6,000 from early position and recieved five callers.

The flop comes {K-Hearts} {3-Spades} {3-Diamonds} . Peter Jetten checked from the big blind and Smith bet 15,000. All other players mucked their hands, and Smith picks up 30,000 without having any further confrontation.

Justin Smith - 75,000.

Recent Eliminations

The following players have been eliminated during the first level of play on day 2:

Alexander Lukyanov
Donnacha O'Dea
Robert Betts
Jim Sachinidis
Nathan Doudney

More Kabbaj for Chen

Late arrival Andrew Chen was in position for a flop of {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} against John Kabbaj. Kabbaj check-called a bet of 9,500 from Chen. When the turn fell {7-Clubs}, Kabbaj led out for 20,000. Chen cut down 50,000, about half his stack, and slid it into the middle. That raise induced a thoughtful muck from Kabbaj.

Oh My

It must have been a rough night for Matt Giannetti, and it looks like it's going to be a long day. He just got up, walked over to a garbage can and vomited into it, and then sat back down at his table.

Ernst Schmejkal Eliminated

After a flop of {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {2-Clubs} Justin Smith checked from the small blind as did Ernst Schmejkal from the big blind. Bruno Fitoussi bet out 6,000 from early position and Smith check raised to 21,500. With only 19,400 left Schmejkal called all-in. Fitoussi got out of the way.

Smith: {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {5-Spades}
Schmejkal: {J-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {6-Spades}

The board filled out {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {K-Spades} {2-Spades} giving Smith a full house, queens over deuces to win the pot.
