Another Scalp for Banner

Steve Banner keeps adding notches to his belt and chips to his stack. He took out another short stack, all in preflop. Banner tabled the best hand, {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} against his opponent's {A-Hearts} {8-Clubs}. The flop brought hope of a chop, {2-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {2-Clubs}, but the turn {9-Hearts} and river {j-Spades} scuttled that possibility. Banner took down the pot with two pair, jacks and deuces. His opponent was off to the payout table.

Le Slides a Bit

Nam Le just doubled up an opponent, dropping about one third of his chips. All in before the flop, Le showed down {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}, in bad shape against the at-risk player's {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades}.

A blank board of {6-Spades} {8-Spades} {10-Spades} {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts} meant a double up for the short stack. 59,000 of Le's chips go to him, dropping the multi-tabling pro down to 241,000.

Monica's Flush Doesn't Hold

We came to see big stack Conrad Monica trying to eliminate another of the short stacks, who was all in for 88,000 with {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Monica showed {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}, which was flipping both before and after a flop of {9-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {9-Spades}. Monica filled his flush with the {2-Spades} turn, but his opponent found an unlikely full house with the river {9-Clubs}.

Monica is down to 360,000.

Kang Doing More Than Just Hanging On

Benjamin Kang
Benjamin Kang
Lucas Priour opened the pot to 18,500 from the button. The small blind ducked out, but Benjamin Kang came along from the big.

The flop rolled out {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}, and Kang moved all in for 79,500. Priour made the call, tabling {9-Hearts} {3-Clubs} for a paltry pair of nines. Kang was ahead with {A-Spades} {2-Spades}. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn was a good card for the short stack, blocking Priour's two pair outs. The {K-Diamonds} was a blank on the river, and Kang has earned another nice pot.

He's still climbing, just nudging 200,000 chips now.

Breaking Things

The clock has been paused, and the players are taking a 20-minute break. During the stretch, the grey/purple/periwinkle T500 chips will be colored up and raced off.

Blinds: 5,000/10,000

Ante: 1,000

Play Resumes

Cards are back in the air. We have Nam Le back -- he raced off to the $10,000 PLO during the break, doubled up, and then came running back.

When You're Running Good...

Nam Le doubled up in the $10,000 PLO event during our break. He came running back here and just knocked out another player despite being dominated. Marc Suckman was all in with {A-Diamonds} {k-Hearts}; Le called with {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} and turned a queen on a board of {6-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {5-Spades} to send Suckman to the rail.

Glines Ready to Vomit

Chairud Vangchailued
Chairud Vangchailued
Oh my. We feel Shawn Glines' pain. Really we do. He got his chips in about as good as you can get them in and got outdrawn on the river.

Preflop action was opened by Matt Livingston for 26,000. Steve Banner and one other player called that raise before Glines raised the button to 105,000. Zach Gilbert moved all in from the small blind for 105,000 and then Chairud Vangchailued moved all in from the big blind for 225,000!

Livingston, Banner and the other caller folded, but Glines quickly called Vangcahilued's all in and found himself in great shape:

Glines: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}
Gilbert: {Q-?} {Q-?}
Vangchailued: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}

Glines was in great shape to increase his count by more than 450,000 chips, but saw the sickest flop he could see: {9-Hearts} {K-Spades} {6-Spades}. Glines needed to fade a spade on two consecutive streets. He did it when the turn fell {4-Diamonds}, but the {4-Spades} was a disaster card for Glines and a miracle card for Vangchailued.

Vangchailued collected the side pot and the main pot to rocket all the way up to almost 700,000. Glines is now hurting with about 150,000. Gilbert is out.

An Unfortunate Turn

Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu
Apparently it's the time of night to play mammoth pots for rolls.

On a flop of {A-?} {Q-?} {2-?}, Brandon Cantu was heads up in a raised pot with Mary Jones. Cantu checked, and Jones put out 70,000 chips. Without too much hesitation, Cantu moved all in with a covering stack. Jones called for her tournament life, pushing all ~310,000 chips into the pot.

Showdown
Cantu: {A-?} {2-?}
Jones: {A-?} {10-?}

Cantu had flopped it rich, leaving Jones with one foot out the door. Lightning struck the turn though, as another {10-?} ripped off the deck, improving Jones to the higher two pair. The river was a blank, and a very frustrated Brandon Cantu started counting out the double-up chips.

Cantu has been atop the pack for most of the day without a slip-up. All that hard work is washed away with the turn of a card though, and Cantu is all the way back to 160,000.

Jones, meanwhile, is now the one chasing the top spot. She's been given a big boost up to 645,000.
