Welcome to Day 2

Chip Lleader, Layne Flack
Chip Lleader, Layne Flack
Day 2 is set to begin in just a few short moments. Out of the 147 entrants that began the event, 35 of them remain. Layne Flack is the chip leader with over 75,000 chips. Phil Ivey, Freddy Deeb, Tony G, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, and Phil Hellmuth are also still remaining in the field. Markus Gosler and Peter Jetten are the only two players that will enter today with less than 10,000 chips, so things might be a little bit more difficult for them.

Twenty-one spots will be paid out and the plan is to play down until the final table of seven. For most of the day, play will be seven handed though.

Stay tuned for all the action coming shortly from the Rio.

Bonyadi Bounced

From the small blind, Farzad Bonyadi was all in pre-draw with only Phil Ivey left in the big blind. Ivey thought about it for a while and then made the call. Bonyadi stood pat while Ivey drew one card.

Bonyadi showed {9-?} {7-?} {6-?} {5-?} {2-?}, but was eliminated when Ivey showed {9-?} {6-?} {4-?} {3-?} {2-?} for a better nine.

Rousso Doubles

George Danzer raised to 2,500 before Vanessa Rousso moved all in for 14,800. After some chatter from Danzer, he made the call.

Danzer drew one card while Rousso stood pat. After the draw, Danzer held {A-?} {9-?} {6-?} {4-?} {2-?}, but Rousso was better with a {10-?} {9-?} {8-?} {7-?} {3-?}. Rousso doubled to 30,100 while Danzer dropped to 18,500.

Nothing But Hold'em

Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow
Mike "The Mouth" Matusow and Yan Chen were just joking with Phil Hellmuth about his WSOP bracelets.

"How many of those bracelets do you have in events other than hold'em?" asked Matusow. He then stuck both his hands above his head and curled his hands to form a big zero.

"I made a final table in one last year," replied Hellmuth.

"What does that have to do with bracelets?" questioned Matusow.

Matusow then went on to add, "I bet Phil would sell his soul to the devil to win a bracelet in something other than Hold'em."

Danzer Out

George Danzer moved all in for about 17,000 after Daniel Alaei raised to 2,700 from the button. Danzer was in the small blind.

First, Danzer drew one card and then Alaei stood pat. Alaei showed {9-?} {8-?} {6-?} {3-?} {2-?}. Danzer revealed four cards with the {9-?} {6-?} {5-?} {2-?}, but mucked the fifth card, the one he drew, upon looking at it. He was sent to the rail while Alaei moved up to 52,000.
