The 2010 World Series of Poker continues today with Day 1b of Event #13, the second $1,000 no-limit hold'em event of the series. Yesterday, Day 1A attracted 1,922 players and a similar number is expected for today's tournament.
Plenty of recognizable faces were in the field yesterday including: Tom McEvoy, Allen Cunningham, Kathy Liebert, "Miami" John Cernuto, and Victor Ramdin. Along with these pros were hundreds of amateurs looking to take their shot at a gold bracelet and a hefty payday.
Play is expected to begin in about ten minutes and you can be sure that PokerNews will be here every step of the way, providing you with the most extensive coverage live from the floor of the Pavilion at the 2010 World Series of Poker.
Cards are in the air and the Pavilion is slowly filling up with fresh tables and late arrivals. The plan today is to play through 8.5 levels in order to merge with yesterday's field with the same time on the clock.
So far a number of pros have been spotted at the tables. Among them are 2007 World Champ Jerry Yang, Bernard Lee, Eric Baldwin, Joe Cada, Marco Traniello, Kelly Kim, Jonathan Little, David Pham, Edward Brogdon, and Burt Boutin.
With players still trickling in, you can expect even more big names to be in the field.
As expected, there are a lot of amateur and recreational players in the field today. That said, a few big names are sitting down to play. Here's who we've seen so far:
Sorel Mizzi
Sam Stein
Jon "FatalError" Aguiar
Bertrand Grospellier
Annette Obrestad
Justin Young
Greg Mueller
Jerrod Ankenman
Erica Schoenberg
Tracey Nguyen
Gary Bogdanski
Boris Becker
J.C. Tran
Jamie Robbins
Jerry Yang was sheepishly looked at out field reporter and said, "Not a good start." This was in reference to his stack of 1,150, less than half of what he started with minutes ago.
Yang might be comforted by the fact that players have already busted from the tournament, so having chips at this point is better than not having them at all.
Three gentlemen at Table 25 have been playing three-handed for over 25 minutes now. They've got more players assigned to their table, but they have yet to show. Steal those blinds, fellas.
The 2007 Main Event Champ won't be adding another gold bracelet to his collection today. Jerry Yang was all in for his last 700 or so on a board reading .
Yang had made a pair with his , but it wasn't good enough to overcome his opponent's for a flopped straight.
Yang was eliminated on the hand and became one of the early casualties on Day 1B.
