Sarwer Spared

Jeff Sarwer
Jeff Sarwer

After a player raised to 2,600 from the cutoff, Jeff Sarwer moved all in for another 6,000. Andrew Chen thought for a moment in the small blind, then minraised. It was just about enough to put the cutoff all in, and it only took him a second or two to fold his {a-}{k-} face up. It took him even less time to jump out of his seat in frustration when Sarwer tabled {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and Chen showed {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}. "You know, raise, all in, reraise," said Mr. Cutoff. "I assumed I had to be beat."

The flop came {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, giving Sarwer a flush draw to go with his better kicker. The {9-Hearts} turn and {5-Diamonds} river were uneventful, and Sarwer more than doubled to 22,000. After doubling Jeff, Chen was left with 38,000.
