Hellmuth and Karp Chop

On the flop of {A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Phil Hellmuth was all in and called by Ryan Karp. Hellmuth held the {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for the nut low while Karp had the {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} for a pair of aces.

The turn brought the {7-Diamonds} and added a flush draw for Hellmuth to give him a chance at scooping the pot. The river completed the board with the {6-Spades} and the two wound up chopping the pot.

"And the drama continues," announced the tournament director.

Hellmuth Shoves, Kind Of

Action folded to Phil Hellmuth in the cutoff seat and he announced, "This is the one, honey!" over to his wife on the rail. He then moved all in for 75,000. He could really only raise to 70,000 and have 5,000 behind, but that's what the tournament director announced for everyone to hear. Everyone folded and Hellmuth chipped up to 105,000 in chips.

Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The board run out {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} and it's a double up for Thomas, she is now up to 160,000 chips. Hellmuth slipped to 40,000 chips.

Another Low Keeps Hellmuth in the Game

Phil Hellmuth was all in and Anders Taylor there to call him. Hellmuth had the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} while Taylor had the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and Taylor picked up two pair. Hellmuth stood from his chair knowing he was now a turn and river away from losing. The turn gave Hellmuth a low draw when the {6-Hearts} fell and then the river landed with the {2-Diamonds}. Hellmuth backed into a low and wound up chopping the pot to stay alive in the tournament.

Despite all of his success in poker and being one of the most recognizable faces in the game, if not the most, Hellmuth heard many of the fans here watching the final table boo when he stayed alive. They also heckled him a little bit, which the tournament director had to issue a warning to the fans.

Lamb Booms Side Pot and Hellmuth Three-Quarters Main

Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Phil Hellmuth stuck the last of his chips in again preflop and this time he had three players make the call.

On the flop of {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, Steve Jelinek was first up and checked. Ryan Karp was next and checked and then action skipped the all-in Hellmuth and jumped over to Ben Lamb. He fired the pot for 180,000. Jelinek folded and then Karp re-potted. Lamb called and was all in, creating a big side pot up for grabs.

Here's how the hands looked when the cards were turned up. Hellmuth held the {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, Karp the {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Lamb the {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Lamb's cheering section, including Al Bari, Jason Mercier and even Sam Stein all were rooting for a deuce to peel off on the turn. Just as the asked, the dealer smacked the {2-Clubs} on the turn and Lamb's rail erupted in cheers as he went over to slap high fives with them. The river then completed the board with the {5-Diamonds}.

Lamb's wheel on the turn locked him up the entire main pot and moved him over 700,000 in chips. Hellmuth also had a wheel and a six-high straight to three-quarter the main pot and get back to 120,000 in chips.

Ettedgi Quartered by Gottlieb

Joel Ettedgi raised to 55,000 for the third hand in a row. This time, he was acting from under the gun. John Gottlieb called from the next seat and then Anders Taylor called out of the big blind, making the pot 175,000.

The flop came down {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and action checked to Ettedgi. He fired 150,000 after asking how much was in the pot. Gottlieb raised the pot and Taylor quickly mucked. Ettedgi called all in just as quick.

Ettedgi held the {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Gottlieb the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} and then the river completed the board with the {5-Diamonds}. The one card Ettedgi didn't want to see was the {5-Diamonds} on the river, but it came and gave Gottlieb three-quarters of the pot as they both chopped the low and Gottlieb made a diamond flush for the high.

Gottlieb boomed his way to 1.35 milliion in chips while Ettedgi was quartered down to 246,000.
