Brunson Bests Barbieri

Razz

Todd Brunson completed the action and then lead the betting action on every street with Al Barbieri calling him down until the river where both players checked.

Brunson: ({8-}{3-}) / {2-}{9-}{J-}{4-} / ({Q-})
Barbieri: (X-X) / {A-}{K-}{7-}{A-} / (X)

Brunson's nine low is good enough to take it down as he moves up to 255,000. Barbieri slips to 170,000.

Cyndy Survives

Stud-8

Cyndy Violette has just doubled up to stay alive in this tournament. Her last chips were all in on fifth street against Ian Gordon.

Violette: ({A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}) / {4-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades} / ({5-Diamonds})
Gordon: ({8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}) / {2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Hearts} / ({K-Diamonds})

A pair of aces is enough for Violette to survive and double to 115,000.

Racener Out of Gas at the Finish Line

John Racener
John Racener

Stud-8

John Racener: (X-X) / {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} / (X)
Robert Mizrachi: (X-X) / {4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts} / (X)

Racener completed, and only Mizrachi called. He still wasn't too excited about his hand on fourth and check-called. He paired his jack on fifth and bet out. Racener called, then called another bet when he paired his nine on sixth. Mizrachi put in one last bet before showdown, and Racener went into the tank. Scotty Nguyen fell asleep at the table while Racener decided what to do. Eventually, John folded and Robert took the pot, chipping up to 370,000. They had to wake up Scotty to play the next hand.

Racener left himself short stacked with just 63,000. It only took him a few minutes to lose the rest and head for the exit. With his elimination, the field is only one from the money.

Hand-For-Hand Play Commences

With the elimination of John Racener in 26th place we are now on the money bubble. The next player eliminated will receive nothing but a story to tell while the remaining 24 players will have 21,997 reasons to smile.

We're now hand-for-hand across all tables until the bubble bursts!

Adams Flexes In Razz

Brandon Adams
Brandon Adams

Razz

Al Barberi completed before Matt Glantz raised it up. Brandon Adams made the call as did Todd Brunson.

On fourth, Brunson took the lead and bet out with Adams and Glantz calling, as Barbieri folded after pairing his door card.

Fifth street saw Brunson lead again, but Adams took over on sixth. All three players checked it down on seventh.

Barbieri: (X-X) / {5-}{5-}
Glantz: (X-X) / {4-}{9-}{8-}{9-} / (X)
Adams: ({A-}{7-}) / {4-}{9-}{8-}{3-} / ({A-})
Brunson: (X-X) / {7-}{5-}{9-}{K-} / (X)

Eighty-seven for Adams was good to collect the healthy pot. He's up to 550,000, with Glantz at 275,000 and Brunson down to 190,000.

Clock Paused

We've reached the end of the level, but the tournament clock has been paused while hand-for-hand play continues. It's a decision that always surprises us since pausing the clock tends to freeze players up, it gives the short stacks more breathing room from the growing blinds and antes, and effectively extends the tournament duration.

Looking around the room it looks like all eyes are on the short stacks of Cyndy Violette, Pawel Andrzejewski and Al Barbieri.

Violette Has Heart

Omaha-8

All eyes were on Cyndy Violette as she was in the big blind in Omaha-8. Steve Billirakis raised the button and Violette made the call.

The flop was {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and Violette fired out a bet. Billirakis raised and Violette called.

The turn was the {3-Spades} and Violette checked to Billirakis who fired a bet. Violette made the call and the river was the {8-Hearts}. Violette led out with a bet for the last of her chips with Billirakis making the call.

Violette tabled {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{A-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for a rivered flush as Billirakis tabled a wheel for the low with his {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

Violette survives and the bubble continues! She's now at 75,000.

Katchalov Keeps Things Under Control

Hold'em

Eugene Katchalov raised, and on the button, Michael Chow three-bet. Katchalov called to see the {q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop. He checked and called when Chow bet. The {4-Hearts} turn earned another check from Katchalov, and Chow checked behind. After the {9-Clubs} on the river, Eugene took a stab at the pot. Chow looked him up, but he couldn't beat Katchalov's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for tens and threes. Let's not get crazy on the bubble now. Katchalov won the pot to move to 265,000 and Chow slipped to 135,000.

Sugar Bear's Stack on a Diet

Hold'em

Eugene Katchalov kept his run going in the Hold'em orbit. He raised from middle position, and Al Barbieri called in the big blind. The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and Barbieri check-called a bet. He did the same on the {3-Clubs} turn and {10-Hearts} river. Katchalov tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for top two, which was good for the sizable pot. Eugene further increased his stack to 350,000. Sugar Bear, on the other hand, is down to 92,000 and looking very nervous.
