Event #50: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Day 1 Started

Crazy PLO Action Only Minutes Away

Dealers are setting up the chip stacks for this afternoon's start of the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event, and the players can't wait to take their seats and get started shouting "Pot!", "Repot!" "Rerepot!" This event is always one of the most high octane gamblefests of the year, and we're sure today will be no different.

Last year, Richard Austin outlasted 362 opponents to win $409,484 and a coveted WSOP bracelet. He defeated Canadian superstar Sorel Mizzi heads up after surviving a terrifying final table that included Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy, Felipe Ramos, Van Marcus, and Peter Jetten. Who will get a shot at the final table felt this year? Join us over the next three days, and we'll find out together.

Action should be underway in a few minutes. They'll play eight levels today with 20-minute breaks after the first two and before the last two and a 60-minute dinner break in the middle. Players start with 3,000 in tournament chips and three add-on chips worth 4,000 each. They may choose to use them all at the beginning and sit down with a full 15,000-chip stack, or they can cash them in at any point during the first four levels. Any they haven't used by the dinner break will automatically be added to their stacks then.

A Note on Chip Counts

This is a quadruple chance tournament. Every player begins with 3,000 tournament chips and three red rebuy chips, each redeemable for 4,000 in tournament chips. Players can choose to use their rebuy chips at any point through the end of the fourth level. Until that point, we will be listing in the chip counts page the number of actual chips players have, not including the unredeemed rebuy chips. When reporting hands, we'll do our best to note the number of rebuys the players still have, and we'll get everyone on a level playing field during the dinner break. If you're sweating a particular player and want to know how many rebuys he or she has left, give us a holler in the shout box and we'll investigate for you.

Table of Death Sighting

We haven't been through the whole field yet, and some of the toughest players haven't taken their seats. But we didn't have to look very far to find one table that terrifies us. Only two tables away from our desk, we've got a fun one to watch and a miserable on to find listed on your registration card.

Seat 4: Vanessa Selbst
Seat 5: Chris Bjorin
Seat 6: Barry Greenstein
Seat 7: Tony Cousineau
Seat 9: Jason Mercier

Who's Here?

Just doing a quick glance around the room, we've got Lex Veldhuis and Shaun Deeb at the same table, and Tom Dwan, Annie Duke, and David "Bakes" Baker seated together.

Annette Obrestad and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott have found themselves at the same table, along with Mike Watson, Alessio Isaia, and Ted Lawson. Phil Ivey, Erica Schoenberg, Erick Lindgren, David Benyamine, Alexander Jonathan Little, Van Marcus, Brett Richey, Allen Bari, Antoine Saout, Daniel Alaei, Kevin MacPhee, Matt Graham, and Scott Clements have been spotted as well.
